  1. I got this movement on ebay and have been entertaining making a big wrist watch! Well, I just received the case for it, disassemble the movement and everything is on the way for a good maintenance and an eventual new watch for the collection! Here is a pic.

  2. Hi, Thanks for the replies. I have a few more pictures. To Geo you are right about the eccentrics. One of the reasons I decided to work on the movement I did was that they were almost worn away on the rusty movement and very loose. Bobm12 is right about the contrasting view. I took the pictures on my kitchen table by moving them off my bench. Just seem to be able to take better pictures there. Speaking of pictures I will include another I took last night as I was putting things back together. If you notice the hammers you will see what looks like oil still on the surface. That particular part I had put back in my parts tray which I later noticed was very oily. It had oil on it from where I had placed the parts before cleaning. May demonstrate how oily the movement was. If you look under the hammers toward the center of the picture you will see an intermediate wheel which moves the minute counter. There is a spring there that was a real bear to put back. There I loosened the screw that holds so I could get enough play to put it in place. Not sure if there is an easier way but after several different attempts that's what I came up with. You also may notice that the balance isn't installed yet. I did install it to check the running of the watch and then took it back out. Just seems that if I ever drop a screw it always heads toward the balance and I have to take it back out anyway. Thanks, Charles

  3. Excellent spot DJW, small works for me actually. The smaller the place the less a watch part has to travel! And speaking of travel, sometimes I believe watches have their own private travel agency for their parts...when they go, they really go! Believe it or not, I just lost a watch battery I was replacing...it simply ping or maybe pong to nowhere!

  4. Well that's the holiday over. My good lady and me spent the last week in York and had a great time. On the Monday we visited The Red House Antiques Centre and as usual I was on the hunt for old watches. I did find a section specialising in wrist watches but as you can guess, the prices were a bit more than I wanted to pay. OK the search went on and we discovered the "Clock Room", and there he was all seven feet of him looking resplendent. It was love at first sight, and better still he was from Scotland! My wife gave me a look that equates to.............He's about to do it in public..............and I did. I got intimate with the big fella, he had such a gorgeous face and large magnificent hands. On opening his private compartment, there it was swinging to and fro, large and perfectly formed, what a bob! I just had to have him. Being a major decision in my life I pondered for a few days and then struck. The deal was quickly done and this lovely grandfather clock was mine. I even managed to pack all seven feet of it it into a standard Vectra, along with all the holiday stuff for the journey home. Here are a couple of pictures, I know it's not a wrist watch, but at least the dial looks like a chronometer!
