  1. Hi All, I'm a late commer to watch repair. As I've mentioned in a reply to one of the members, the place where I work ordinarily goes as far a movement replacement. The owner has good reason to limit the depth of the repair, but I can't help but want to go into the nuts 'n bolts. Therefore, I have to find my own time to try things. With a busy home life, I'm limited. Since I can replace movements I came up with a handy way to pull the stem (I can never find a movement holder). I was taught to use an old stem as a release but, sometimes find it awkward I modified two types of dental flossers. They permit me to hold the old stem with my index finger while using my thumb and middle finger to hold the movement. I broke the tip off the flosser and used a pin vise to drill a hole to thread the stem into the end. One style gives me a way to depress the dimple when it's offset. The other style uses a sewing machine needle. I've attached photos. Hope someone finds this helpful, Dave

  3. Finished today thanks to Maurice. It's keeping excellent time on the bench, I just want to see how well it compares with normal use.

  4. Nice movement made in the 60's featuring the tiny little micro-rotor. This is a Hamilton but I have seen this movement in other makes like Universal and I think Baume & Mercier. It has a 19,800 train. The problem with this was that the watch was not auto-winding. Turns out there was a wheel in the auto-works placed upside down! After service it ran very well. After a full wind it too over 45 hours to stop. Some pictures for your enjoyment... 5. Vladimir Putin has got a very impressive collection worth over £450,000 apparently, which is six times more than he officially earns a year. Guess he's just a really good saver?!!!

  6. So, apparently, it's a mark of elegance not to wear a watch or a wedding ring. I remember a time when the mark of being "upper-class" was to wear a small gold signet ring on the little finger of the right hand - with handkerchief in the cuff, of course (to show that you were ex-military), and pocket watch on an Albert across the weskit...

  7. Painting the hands white will do wonders as this is a military pattern. Great job! Anil

  9. Just to conclude i have now finished the watch and it is now running as it once was. The hands were loose so i have carefully refitted them and the watch is now running at the correct time. Hopefully it will last another 15 years :D
