  1. Still draining the bank account. This think looks pristine.

  2. I'm guessing what the problem is it's not actually a brand-new balance complete it's the used balance complete perhaps. That means some tweaking may be required to get it to go in. If it was an actual brand-new balance complete yes it should drop in perfectly. This now becomes the interesting question and problem. It looks like it's just bent at the stud relatively simple if you know how to bend hairsprings otherwise it's going to be a problem. This becomes the problem of those of us that have skills where this is not a problem and if you don't have skills this may be a problem. I guess you could just email the picture it's the seller on eBay and ask what's going on and see what the answer is. The last time I saw something like this somebody purchased a new old stock Rolex balance complete and it was bent so they contacted the seller who's supposedly wouldn't take returns and said send it to us and we will put it in. In the end they did get the money back and he returned the balance complete but it was just like this was just a matter of tweaking it but if you're not familiar with tweaking and don't want to break it bend it up too much then it is going to be an issue. I guess the thing to do is email the seller and see if what they think. There is they might say oh dear send it to us we will fix it or will give you a new one or something. It comes back that's the way it is you have to fix it yourself then I would practice on other hairsprings before you practice on this The actual reality is you should have scrapped balance wheels and practice every single day bending them just to get really good at bending hairsprings for that time when accidents happen which it does and have to put things back.

  5. The time keeping should be better then that it should be down to seconds per day.

  6. I like that I clicked on the picture trying to see the other ones. I don't have experience with that exact set, but I use a similar set of Watch-Craft winders, and they're perfectly serviceable. Just be ready for that price to go way up with 4 days left on the auction and 11 bids already. The winders below went for about $225. Edit: I also notice the seller has a lot of high-resolution photos, but none of the arbor hooks. You may want to ask for that before bidding to make sure they're not worn away.

  8. How do you like your trupoise have you had chance to try it out, does it work better than the standard poising tool, i've just got one but it didn't come with any instructions on how to use it, there wasn't much online about the trupoise. I searched ebay for sold items, and found some photos of the instruction manual in the sales pics of a couple of different sellers, these photos seem to be the clearest, the instructions may help anyone else who gets one.

  9. One difference is that the A and B versions doesn't have quickset for the day, only for the date.

  10. funny you should mention that I've noticed some squeaking underfoot in the old watchroom Problem with something like this while searching, the lost parts hit hard magnetic steel at mach3 . If they are still in one piece they are permanently magnetised

  12. That's for working with bezel-set or rubbed-in jewels. The piece on the right has two jaws that expand to open uo the setting, and the small pieces on the left fit the handle in the middle and are used to close the setting.

  13. That is good but after you have gone through what I said you might get a little more. When the rotation is around 20 degrees that is the time to worry which I have seen, but that is before a service.

  14. Thanks for all the comments and help, I got it back together and working well, just waiting on a ball bearing to fix the bezel, then will post pictures Thanks for all the comments and help, I got it back together and working well, just waiting on a ball bearing to fix the bezel, then will post pictures Here is a picture with the bezel not 'locked' in place. Not 100% happy with the lume on the hands and dial, but not unhappy enough to scrape it off and risk damaging the dial to do it again.

  15. You obviously are not learning your watch repair on YouTube as that statement apparently is entirely incorrect. Seldom do I ever watch YouTube watch repair stuff unless there's some reason I have to. While I do watch a heck of a lot a YouTube I typically almost never watch, watch repair. Although there's a few channels out there that I do like and do subscribe to them to help out with their numbers. Then I will usually refer people if they need a video to those channels but that's a really tiny list. For the channel below which I do not subscribe to I was only there because somebody asked if I knew Marshall? To be honest I didn't even know who Marshall was. But I was informed he lives in Seattle so I tracked down his history which is quite fascinating and noticed this video. I had seen a couple other videos before people made suggestions but this one looked interesting. Then before we look at the video the comment made by @nickelsilver that I quoted above ideally I'd like to expand that to always remove the power before disassembling any timepiece. Disassembling with power can be very bad not just for the escapement. Then some escapement's disassembling with our can be extremely bad. So it's usually best if you can always remove the power before disassembling. Then how do you know that this is a cylinder watch? Or basically how do you know it's something different a lever while you look to see if there is a lever. Then there's another way to tell a cylinder watch as far as I know only cylinder watches have this feature which is when the dial comes off and I snipped out something notice I circled something So when you see something like that that's not a lever that's usually a cylinder it's meant to be adjustable. The also notice up above you can see the mainspring barrel with its stop works mechanism still there not swiped like typically happens. Then yes the barrel is suspended its call the suspended barrel is no place for the arbor to go on the side. Makes for a slightly thinner watch at least that's why suspect that they didn't know it actually no but it is interesting barrel assembly if it wears out. Then there was the other amusement I had which is the Cannon pinion. This is one of the minor problems of watch repair it requires lots and lots and lots of experience. This is because there so many variations of things it becomes almost impossible remember everything but this is something relatively common for these type watches of this time span. The question comes up enough times on the group that I actually have a dedicated folder with all the pictures are easy to find and I can show people exactly what they have and how it's supposed to come apart. Although the video he used a rather clever method.

  16. For future reference, on a cylinder escapement it's imperative to let all power off before removing the balance.

  17. Haha otherwise you wont have any. I watched a video once of a guy that caught a fishing magnet this size from a river with his own fishing magnet of the same size. He posted another video two months later, he hadn't managed to seperate them

  18. Neverenoughwatches and mikepilk Thank you for the information about the UV torch. Ordered one.

  19. I bought a UV torch and used it to find a tiny cap jewel. It does work ! I first search for parts with a torch, then magnet. If no luck, I clean the dust chamber on the Dyson, set it to max, and vac everything and everywhere. I empty the bin contents on to a sheet of white paper, and use the magnet.

  20. now you just need to make a jewel magnet Visa and MasterCard make those, they seem to collect jewels for Mrs W without any problems

  21. @Neverenoughwatches Well, since rubies (synthetic and real) fluoresce under a black light, maybe turn out all the lights, and break out your black light (and maybe some gummies)...

  22. It works perfectly, just doesnt look like it would, there is tension between the two locating tabs pulling them outwards. I've not found that anywhere else up to now either.
