I nearly picked up one of these for a song a couple of years back, but I was pipped at the post. The calibre reminds me somewhat of the HMT 0231 (and the related Citizen 0200 and 1800 families)3 points

On the discussion group like this when you run into a problem you could ask for for help like oh dear I don't know how to remove this? Then the suitable pictures we can verify something as opposed to I get the guests and let's see how good I am at guessing based on the age of your watch. On the other side in the picture that we don't have doesn't look something like this? In other words smooth sides probably a protruding pin? A lot of times on the other side it will look something like this where you have to look really carefully to see that there is a pin and that has to be removed to get the Canon pinion off In the evolution of these components at one time this would've had key setting the key would either go on the front side or the backside here's an image of key set on the backside. Now while yours is not a key set the principle is the same there is a pin that goes through the center wheel and holds the Canon pinion on at least that's my guess based on the lack of pictures and your inability to remove the Canon pinion because it is not a normal Canon pinion which is still subject to me making a guess due to lack of pictures Here's a picture of a book that should represent what you have once we verified that is what you have I will explain how to take the pin out Oh and typically make repairs you need to take the watch back out of the case.2 points

OK, So I recleaned and reassembled the train of wheels, and assembled it with the spring in the correct position. While doing this, I realized that the clutch wheel was falling to the side and jamming the barrel, I had taken the stem out to fix the end as it was bent. To fix the rubbing problem I just had to reinstall the stem. problem was so simple. thank you all for the advice and help with troubleshooting.1 point

Yes the dreaded is my second hand really doing what I think it's doing? It's one of the annoyances I have a work with LED lighting I sometimes wonder if it has a strobe effect and then the second hand never looks right at all. Although I do have a 214 network that's definitely surging. As long as it's running I wouldn't worry about it too much. Other then try not to look at the second hand because they always look like there's surging it's quite annoying. Then unfortunate reality is if you're going to work on tuning fork watches spare parts is definitely an issue. Although brand-new spare parts do show up on eBay from time to time. Oh and if you go to the link below search for 214 or 218 they don't have much at least they have the gaskets and an index wheel for the 218 which is quite rare. Otherwise the best places eBay for parts and of course watches To be cannibalized for parts https://www.jewelerssupplies.com1 point

I find it's an interesting hand out as I think it comes from several sources. Then if you like handouts here's a few more. Handouts and different sources on escapement become amusing because of slight difference of terminology and well they just become amusing then if you want to know where the handout originally came from a came from a lecture. Now the lecture is a very very good lecture but. The speaker is outstanding lectures outstanding but the people filming the lecture are not outstanding there are quite stupid. I was watching another lecture on YouTube where the speaker or a headset with a microphone and it would bid noise canceling microphone. Noise canceling microphones only pick up sound from the speaker anything in the room is canceled out. Unlike here were he's holding his microphone and unfortunately very noisy room. What becomes interesting with all of this is that if you were in the room which I was by the way he gave the lecture twice at the convention so I watched twice. So yes some of the background noise was noticeable when you're in the room but for some reason his microphone picks up all of it so if you can work your way through his accent and listen to it it's a good presentation. If you have zero knowledge or tools then doing anything on these watches will be very bad. Then we don't adjust the balance staff until we evaluate what's wrong and then the problem adjusting isn't the right term. It was broken it has to be replaced that would present a challenge because that requires a lot of tools which conceivably you do not have. Then this is a vintage watch which means balance staffs are usually not available. This would mean additional tools like a watchmaker's lathe to make a balance staff. So very rapidly a whatever you're trying to do is going to become extremely expensive.1 point

Loose chaton moves inside the housing with every impulse, often making an audible chirp sound thence, Try holding down all thats inside the housing with a peg wood and observe the effect. Rgds1 point

A & R stand for advance & retard for fine regulation once the watch is serviced and any issues remedied. Tom1 point

I realize he's just being cheeky about 'copy my homework' but 'copy' is a loaded word. Since forever brands using movements from other companies was standard practice, not a exception, and certainly not a 'copy.'...rant over...1 point

You could try giving it a prod with a pin. Shellac is hard and brittle, whereas glue should be softer. (Though I guess you might get soft shellac?)1 point

It's just easier to pick out the treated parts from the small metal basket than the bottom of the bottle, especially the cap jewels used in shock settings. All the time you are trying to pick them up the fluid is evaporating, also the small neck helps reduce fluid loss due to evaporation. But a definite 'nice to have' rather than a necessity.1 point

Decided to try again stems pops up really fast. The staff one was a little bit slower but it just now came up. Maybe they're just on a really slow connection or a connection that overloads easily?1 point

Try windingstems.com that is working for me, you can access both staffs and stems from there . https://www.windingstems.com/a-michel.php1 point

usually best not to start swapping parts on American pocket watches to fix problems especially if you don't grasp what the problem is. As that tends to introduce new problems as the watch was originally made with the original parts and they were Adjusted with the original parts. In other words at the time this watch was made interchangeability 100% doesn't work. This means if you swap components you have to adjust the watch for the new components. It would be best if you put back the original and work with those. Data regarding your question of have the banking pins been moved more than likely their movable. Anything that's vintage and has anything that's movable it's probably been moved as there's a certain lack of understanding of why they're there in the first place. They oftentimes get moved for the wrong reason. Usually guard pins aren't played with because are a lot harder to be played with. Although sometimes on the single rollers they don't seem to be quite the right place. But this can also occur when somebody replaces a balance staff and starts mixing and matching components like the Roller is it contains both the roller jewel and the safety all in one and a lot of times with a replace the staff don't break it or something and then you will have issues. Back to my complaining about it's best not to change things. It depends upon the books you have access to or perhaps the handouts. Then yes a lot of books do not go into detail of the escapement and even if they did go we often end up with the problem of everybody is slightly different terminology and concerns they have. One of the most interesting books is Know the Escapement – January 1, 1948 by Sarah & Homer A. Barkus (Author). Amazon is always interesting it shows that the book does exist at least did but they don't have it. Amusingly they do not have a picture of the book itself normally pictures of books aren't interesting but this one is if you get an original first edition. In real life you would've purchased the other item and I'm sure the book came with it. I was really hoping some enthusiastic person would reproduce this is a 3-D printer item as it makes it a lot easier to understand the escapement if you have something to adjust Then what happens if somebody makes hand out where they include lots of different sources you do in a lot of nice information but not as nice as what's up above words all been consolidated. I'm attaching a PDF. Then I do you think some of the handout is based on a lecture unfortunately the audio quality of lecture really sucks but I do think it is online if you could tolerate the background noise AWCI sometimes films or conventions unfortunately they're totally clueless about how to do filming. Or in particular their clueless about audio the better people will have somebody wear headphone with a noise canceling microphone so in other words background noise gets canceled out and you're not holding onto a microphone that's picking up every single thing in the room. If you're really curious I can go and track that down it's on the AWCI website or on their YouTube channel Escapement handout wostep nscc.pdf1 point
