  1. Aw really sorry mate, that sucks big time. Ive been there though and i always have my wits about me. I once bought a van from a guy that worked for FedEx...he didn't actually own the van...he took a loan out on it so it belonged to the loan company although he could use it....basically used it as collateral. Handed over his log book to the loaner then ordered another log book from our DVLC to give to me. I found out 6 months later when the loan company came after me and their van when he stopped payments on the loan. I found him though at his work 2 weeks later at 4.00am one morning when he turned up for work, lets just say it didnt go well for him, I could hear his workmates laughing in the warehouse next to where i had him pinned to the wall . Apparently he was known for being a complete a-hole, some folk just ask for everything they get. I hope the guy that did this to you get whats coming to him.

  2. A mainspring is determined by 3 sizes only: width, thickness, length. If you need to push it directly into the barrel and lack a winder: diameter If your watch needs a special end other than the usual bridle: type of bridle. I wonder why people still use such rubbish like Dennison sizes today . Frank

  3. Thought i would just make some members aware of a pitfall with ordering from aliexpress... but not just Ali...but any out of country company that uses EVRI. Two months ago I ordered some tools from Ali , they used Evri parcel delivery at this end to make the final journey in the UK.. Evri's driver dumped my parcel on my door step while I was out, normally I would get three attempts then it would be dropped off at a pick up point for me to collect. I returned home around 4 hours after the delivery to find that some scroat had walked up to my front door and walked off It. The last 2 months i have spent backwards and forwards with Evri and Ali trying to resolve the issue. Evri being extremely unhelpful and unresponsive to my emails and requests to resolve the issue. the deal is that the buyer must approach the seller to handle the situation, which i did, he was also very unhelpful and said i must deal with the delivery company direct. After endless Emails to Evri, their managers and the CEO and promises to fix the situation for me, I eventually received a phone call this morning, most probably due to a huge rant from me in an email yesterday containing all manner of threats. The Evri agent drafted me an email while i was on the phone with him, explaining the driver's cock up, something that ive been asking for 6 weeks. Hopefully Ali will accept this as an " official proof" of lost parcel. Looking forward to a positive outcome in the next few days, I also have my bank contacting me to help as well. . just to add when i first made evri aware of the stolen parcel, there was no offer to remedy the situation only a promise that it would'nt happen again......which it did 3 weeks later left in a plant pot on my front door step......ffs.....I ask you....." THICK AS F__K ! "

  4. Sometimes I have to make some missing screws that my watchmaker friends can't source. Here are photos of making 3 missing screws for Omega buckle. The thread size is odd - 1.4X0.2

  6. Hello I've never moded a watch before so I'm not sure what order I'm to assemble it nor what gaskets I should be using. I believe the steps are: 1 - Case & chapter ring - does this usually have a gasket? 2 - Chrystal - does this usually have a gasket? 3 - Bezel & Bezel insert 4 - Bezel click spring & assembled bezel from step 3. - does this usually have a gasket? 5 - Movement, dial & hands. 6 - Case movement and install stem and crown. 7 - Install case back - I imagine there is a gasket with this? 8 - Install watch strap. 9 - Admire Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.

  7. Gasket/case wise often many come with the caseback, gaskets and crystal in place and assembled. Same with chapter ring - it's worth seeing if you can find the config you want preassembled.

  8. High quality Chinese made watch automatic cleaning machine for watchmakers to clean watch parts https://a.aliexpress.com/_mtEsap2 They did. But they cloned the high end machines. My mentor has one of these. Every parameter can be programmed but the instructions and LCD display is all in Chinese. I'm not sure if the default language can be changed.

  11. I mean the oring becomes a goopy mess, like tar. And the only way to remove is to dip the oiler in it and wiping it off on a piece of tissue. The stuffing orings in trick doesn't always work. There are 2 kinds of washers, some are just friction fitted and some are rubbed-in, like jewels. The rubbed-in ones will never pop out. My mentor simply cuts the whole washer off and makes a new one. I haven't reached that level of proficiency yet.

  12. Even if the o-ring was brand new the gap in these 6105 diver crowns is too narrow to fit the thick ring in or out.

  13. It must just be the photo then where it looks like it's bottoming out.

  14. This is a sealed crown with a washer so there's no just scooping out the old o-ring.

  15. I bought this and it works well with soft gaskets. Last time I removed a gasket from a sealed crown was a King Seiko 4502-7001. I tried a method I learned from car people. They soften rubber parts by soaking them in a mixture of wintergreen oil and IPA. It sure softens rock hard gaskets but nowhere near enough that you could pull them out in one piece. Plus the old gasket tends to crack when it dries so you cannot really reuse it. The softened gasket is easier to break in pieces and pull out so it helps a bit. Maybe the softening method is better suited for bigger parts like those in cars.

  16. Repair Tool for Removing The Waterproof Ring on The Crown of The Watch, Replaceable Hook, Watch Maintenance Tool for Watchmakers https://a.aliexpress.com/_mKASyRe You might try one of these. But if the rubber is rock hard, you might need to dissolve it by soaking it in acetone and scooping out the goop with an oiler. How much of the pendant tube is sticking out?

  18. Normally when you're using PayPal to buy things off for business websites are totally unaware of this. If you send your friends some money by logging in the PayPal you would typically be unaware of this. But? For instance I was purchasing a watch from a friend basically as a he was helping me out. So when I went in the PayPal I believe was actually given a choice but it defaulted to his business because he does run a business. Because I was getting a very special price I got a very angry email because PayPal subtracted out a fee of five dollars. So had I have used friends and family he what he got the entire $100. As he was doing me a favor I went back in the PayPal paid attention to the choice that I had and PayPal five dollars as a friend so he would have his full $100 No matter what you should still contact PayPal and let them know that there is a problem then they Can close the account and prevent other people from being scammed. Then who knows maybe we'll get some your money back but at least you can stop this person for now know probably get another one.

  19. Is the stem old and correct length? If the crown is NOS or was taken off a crown tube while the gasket was still soft it might have hardened so that it won't fit the crown tube properly. Stuffing the crown with smaller o-rings is a working method.

  20. That crown is bottoming out on the case so I expect it's the wrong one. You can stuff the old crown with o-rings or sometimes you can just pry the washer out with small hooks.

  22. Good video on wheel truing, i enjoyed it. . Kinda surprised me that Mark did not use any dial protection when lifting the hands. I get that the levers where big to spread the load and polishing the levers will minimise and dial damage ( i didnt notice how polished they were ) but any slight burrs on the underside of the levers from inadvertent created scratches could transfer to the dial, for the sake of a few seconds to lay plastic cover over , yeah kinda surprised me that. I'd say that looks too much When adjusting endshake anywhere, i go for the least i can get without causing an ill effect I would try a free oscillation check first, its good to know that the balance will oscillate with adequate free motion in isolation. Your video.....as long as the hairspring is in good order and working correctly, does look like poor interaction between the impulse pin and the fork, could be down to the balance endshake or the lever endshake, the pin might be rubbing on the gaurd finger of the fork. That can be the balance is too low...you could hack that by flipping the bottom capstone , or somehow you've lowered the roller table height with the accident, or the fork is too high.....possibly bent up and needs straightening ( not as frightening as it sounds ) . So in summary....free oscillation check and then the lever to balance connection ( forkslot/ impulse pin interaction ). I think you checked for free motion of the train .

  23. I've just found this thread: Super helpful. I have a jewelling tool coming. In the meantime, I'm going to install the pallet and see (a) whether the balance is making contact with the pallet bridge and (b) how the fork lines up with the impulse jewel and safety roller. I'm learning so much here; the biggest lesson is to not be hasty.

  24. The illustration is from Practical Clock Repairing by Donald de Carle. I'm sure OH is familiar with it, as will many others here. It's quite an old book but explains an awful lot. You cannot move individual wheels. The whole barrel moves (moving just one would create a new tune - all the right notes but not in the right order!) I'm not sure how it might have happened unless someone in the past tinkered with it or there is slippage in the system. Have you checked all the teeth and bushings? When rotating the barrel observe the movement of the hammers. When you see 'four in a row' (1234) that is the quarter past chime. That way, if you get lost you can roll on and find your way back. Here is a diagram of the front plate from the same book.

  26. Thanks for surfacing this one for me - I think it is exactly what I needed. I was not sure if you could push the incabloc settings or what tool to use - looks like you can and that I have the right tool! I will practice on a scrap movement this weekend.

  28. Nice little lathe caseback inc. a drilling rig. For supporting a specific angle on a workpiece to turn repetitive pieces, I imagine the cut out on the profile is for viewing that the angle is correct and/or for working the chamfer .

  31. Have a look at this video. Mark shows how to use a truing tool to check for true and how to straighten and true the wheel. Many Seikos seem to have distorted balance wheels. I always check them. I had to straighten two of them recently.

  32. So no resolution has been reached between Evri and the seller. The seller did not accept the explanation in the email from Evri.....the seller wants an official proof document that is stamped signed etc etc.....so basically bullshit that you'll get from a chinese seller to totally avoid dealing with the situation. I have been told that Evri dont supply documents like these, so a stalemate has been reached....However i brought paypal into this as my transaction card is linked with PayPal and i use PayPal wherever i can. Paypal protection has stepped up and refunded me..........However.....I will continue to be a total basta.d with Evri until they do something that I'm happy about.....so its going to be a very long year, i never give in....and I never back down from a situation.....my mum used to say " son..your like a mad dog with a bone " Bye for now chaps .....I have emails to send Another email to evri's ceo, my new morning routine has been set

  33. I am tempted to give a sarcastic remark, but will refrain. You have 150 posts on this forum, so you have been around awhile. The only way to address your issue is to remove, inspect, disassemble, inspect again, assemble, lubricate, reinstall. There are no shortcuts if you want it to run correctly.

  34. Apologies for the late comeback, my memory is terrible these days, I'll drag that spring out while i remember and see what i can help you with. You're in uk i assume you mentioned 50 quid in your intro. 50 quid to change a 2 quid battery, i need to set up shop i can see the spring for the date ring in your photo ? Is this one that you've modified ? Was the original one missing ? This is the spring, pretty basic shepherd's crook, let me know what you're looking for.......and if you say a busty blonde.....then its too late i already have the perfect match And no its not Sam Fox that we keep seeing in the lingerie ads at the top, mine is far better.

  35. I bought the 16mp camera for my AmScope trinocular microscope, and I have to say, it's fantastic. While it is a luxury, I do post a lot of photos, and holding a loupe to my phone is less than ideal, and the ability to get close up video will be fun for the Accutron repairs I've been doing. Additionally, I bought the calibration slide to go with it, and the software lets me measure things to within a fraction of a mm. For example, trying to find the diameter and width of a flat case gasket when I don't have the original. It's just super cool and thought I'd share.

  36. Thanks for the optimism, @Neverenoughwatches. Unfortunately, I'm now sure. His Paypal account was under a false name (different from the ID picture he sent me, which was surely stolen) and the 2nd hand site sent me a mail that the user was also reported by another user for fraud. PayPal has two types of payments: "Friends and Family" and "Goods and Services". If you choose the former, you waive all rights for money recovery. I was very stupid to be talked into it...
