Server Migration

Just a heads up everybody.

 

It seems my hosting company (based in Canada) for my server has gotten themselves a presence in the EU and wants to pump 20% VAT onto my bill. I have had a server with them for about 4 years now and they have been a good service provider but from a financial point of view I can get a better deal elsewhere so I need to move the site. 

 

I will start planning now and will keep the downtime to an absolute minimum. 

 

I will keep this thread updated as I go along - hit the follow button if you want email updates.

I use 1and1.co.uk for my file hosting  - very good for my needs, but I don't know how they might charge for forum use. Whatever - good luck with the changeover.

I have access to the new VPS and I must say, the speed is much better than the current server. Hope it stays that way. I have a few websites, I will transfer them over the next few days.

Knownhost would be my second choice, they are a brilliant host. I went with UK2 because the VPS's are on SSD and I wanted to try that - so far i'm impressed.

It looks good from here. It is 10:45 am here and a few minutes ago I couldn't get in. The message was the site was going to be back in 30 min. Ergo....We are back!!! :)
