It is solid to the wall so no movement was possible. He suspects his cleaner had got a bit over zealous opened the door and the cleaning cloth got tangled. The vid was after my adjustments. The customer has been using a pro clock repairer for many years who has now retired.  Also he has a lot of clocks that need attention so plenty of work afoot when I have time.

chimeing  Vs ticking;   it is easy to learn to live with "ticking".   chimes are another story.   some of those ships clocks chimes can be heard when you are outside mowing the lawn.  just for the lady of the house,  i let the chimes run down.   as far as feminism goes,  THAT was my X vaccuuming wilst I ate breckfast.    vin

    • Different methods for different reasons and different levels of skill. The methods change as the skill improves, it's just a way of progression and evolving. The reverse is true, when a skill deteriorates, the ways change to compensate.
    • Desperately in need of some human interaction please 😅 schools off for Easter and I haven't left my house for four days. I'm busy sorting and partially stripping back to identify old movements for donor parts, but warm and cosy in the Watchroom. I've managed about 50 up to now since Monday with only one unidentified ( which I might put up for Cluedo later ), so slowly filling up the new donor draw.  Strange that 25% of them are BFG movements. Probably another 100 or so to go through. The Flume book I'm using is easier to navigate than the Bestfit, this one dates to 1972 and is laid out better than the older editions, as far as I know there are more recent editions published.
    • Didn't know shimming conforms to Swiss horolog standards, in watch repair, if its to  compensate for pivot wear, it actually is not a bad practice, for the following reasons.  1- No need to deform any part.  2- Substitutes restaffing balance wheel, thus no need to re-poise balance wheel, among other tasks to built a balance complete.   Which is why, I tend to recommend shimming specially to beginers.  Lets not forget,  to beginers, getting a non runner to tick and perhaps tok 🤩  is best encouragement.  Regs
    • Hello and welcome from Leeds, England.
    • Actually the last two were not so long ago, I was actually after the stakes and the Trupoise just happened to be there as a bonus. Just counted them, I have 4 and another similar one but better 🤦‍♂️. So yes they do come up for sale quite cheap sometimes if nobody is wanting to buy one at the time. Somewhat of an overreaction ! I have learnt a few things from Kalle ( generally not what to do lol ) , but he honestly does my head in . I might even have to demote him to the level of our new watch term- generously donated by John-  of  " Prior Idiot "  😅 This statement make you " The Man " today. I've had some pretty good finds at carboots inc. A Dirty Dozen, but a Trupoise puts you up there on tge leader board today 😅 And my attention to grammar and spelling is failing today , jist though Id mension thhat. 😅
