I have a beautiful Seiko watch with 7009A 17J movement (automatic), the problem is that the watch stops when shaken and does not starts again until shaken again.

What can be the underlying cause and is it an easy fix. P.S. I am a novice trying to learn

Hi there could be several reasons for the watch stopping , from being dry/dirty and needing servicing to a mechanical failure for example a broken balance staff,   pallet/fork fault faulty wheel or wheels.    broken / damaged mainspring, the list goes on. Without opening the watch up the watch  and taking a look, sorry cant be more specific at this point   cheers

I remove the rotor and put some naphta on screwdriver, gently smear each teeth of the escapement wheel with naphta and all jewels to the escape mech, that is jewels to the es apement pivots , fork pivots and balance pivots.

Misaligned pallet jewels stops a watch on wrist and it can start to run again. we,ll get to that next.

The best thing is to have it all taken apart and cleaned. There is so much that can stop a watch, we can only make suggestions. A broken part can screw the movement up.
