"Hype." is what I will say every time I lose an auction now. Or win one but overpay.

For 0.99p who (other than every sane person on ebay obviously) could possibly resist.
A non working Newmark with fixed lugs, probably from the late fifties or early sixties.

Strange how the dial looks twisted but the 3 lines up with the crown.

I'm presuming the case back is what lines up the movement.

From memory I think you are correct, but it might also be a slight optical illusion as the pictures are taken from an odd angle. I'll confirm the situation when it arrives.

A sharp looking dial but does it appear to be aligned perfectly with the crown but crooked in the case 😕?

What can one expect for .99p .

😂

Imagine 10000 from now, our grand grand..... kids, will say  "   look !     this is some sort of mechanical time keeper, our grand grand... fathers used for being on time.  The other, would say ,

oh really !!   Let me see , how did it work?

Another one jumps in and  says,

" thats nothing man"

then shows pictures of cows and says, they used to eat this creatures , called them cow / hamburger or something.

Next one declares    "   yach  ,I wouldn't swap my cock roach powdered protein sandwich with tons of that stuff" .

Haha,

On serious side,  I don't think there be a nuke attack,  just a tactical use at worst, but you are right, one never knows.

Unfortunately, us homo sapiens have throughout history proven our stupidly despite all smarts.

These little "beauties" are on their way.

Who could resist three for a quid?

Most sane and sensible people I suspect.

The alarmingly cheap replacement quartz mechanism for the Rotary in this bunch arrived the other day.

As I suspected, it is a Chinese clone of the original movement, which meant that not only did I have to replace the movement, but I had to cut and fit the stem that came with the replacement, as it differed markedly from the original.

Having said that, it works, came with a free battery, and looks identical once fitted, so all three of this job lot are now working perfectly and looking almost like new.

Just for completeness here is the 99p lot ticking away nicely. I could have picked a better time to take the shot as the date is just starting to change on the Rotary. Oddly it takes forever but the number finally clicks into place almost exactly at midnight. I may have a play with this to move it forward a bit, but currently I think it is fine the way it is.

@AndyGSi Correct. There is nothing to stop you fitting the mechanism in whatever position amuses you. Obviously it is *meant* to look like this.

I now have it cleaned and running. It needs a crystal, but I may have another crack at removing some more of the scratches. I also need to dig through my stash and see if I have a suitable 16mm fixed lug strap. I have the original one steeping in some detergent and disinfectant, but it is a little tired and worn, so I don't think it will be recoverable. I may save the buckle and indulge in a little leather work to fabricate a replacement.

A "Siro" pin lever nickel cased "trench watch" for 99 pence. This most likely has radium on the dial, so I'll need to be a little careful with the cleaning.

The case looks in reasonable condition, except for some oxidation on the front.

A 1972 Timex is on its way. Listed as "not working" (no surprise there) and "automatic" (it isn't).
It looks to be in reasonable condition, but pretty filthy (also no surprise).

This one came in at exactly £4.04 plus postage.

Cleaned and running.

I picked this up at the vintage fair on Sunday for $5. Ineresting little 32mm watch. Seems to be an older size 0 but with production date of.May 1904. With Sir Wm Pitt on the dial and bridge maybe made for British but made to.look like an American pocket watch conversion? The clasp on bracelet say sturdy with a patent date of 1928. Lugs definately a later addition.

Was all gunked up so stripped, cleaned oiled and reassembled. Will need to work with the hairspring but everything is there and working.

Added new crystal. DSCN61072.thumb.JPG.cde40d04e43ef5128dddda9d23541e0f.JPGDSCN61052.thumb.JPG.e3049e563be3af7a00904bced76c5e27.JPGDSCN61132.thumb.JPG.4b6f18e9c1e460c3aa0084b822734560.JPGDSCN61142.thumb.JPG.171b09696598f4b879cda4171b66a93b.JPG

Very interesting. I wonder why Sir William Pitt of all people.

I was wondering the same. Other than the case and the name, nothing but 362 on the dial side. The balance cock looks a little like a south bend...20240909_2016262.thumb.jpg.f75c76d58ce0efd026b8feb4bdb1f53a.jpg

I did spot a "Lord Wellington" on ebay, but for some reason,  I decided to give it a miss. Not quite as "highbred" as your Sir William,  I would suggest.

The strap at least is currently in a bowl of boiling water and bleach.

I use a good dose of Ajax or Flash floor cleaning liquid. Though with some, bleach does sound like a good idea!

    • By the way, I opened my watch, looked under a magnifying glass, there is simply no grease, the screws are without traces, the slots are intact.I think it's just a matter of maintenance.there are no rotor marks on the body. And to remove the strap from yours, just press on the 1st side, and slightly move the strap, then on the other side and it will come off.
    • Hi My name is Chris. Just started trying to learn about watch and clock repair as a result of repairing my fathers old 1890s police station clock (about a year ago). The clock was Ok, but having graduated to pocket watches and then wrist watches, despite the really excellent stuff on Youtube, I am struggling a bit.  As a retired engineer, I find the engineering exquisite, but a bit on the fiddly side.  I have done a few practice watches with a little success but failed a few, but have had success with Seiko 7005s, 7009s etc, but have just attempted a citizen 5430.  Nightmare.  My wife thought I had found religion as I spent so much time on my knees with my eyes to the floor looking for springs.  Got through that and found that the balance is shot.  Trying to source one or something that will fit from the citizen range has me totally perplexed.  Tried Ebay, Cousins etc without luck.  Any advice as to alternatives that will fit or alternative sources would be gratefully received.
    • Agreed, this is puzzling. Can you ask questions or inspect the lots before bidding? My Boley & Leinen Reform face plate is dia. 95mm exactly. It's possible that 4 inches is a slightly too large approximation, but why then make the distinction to 3 11/16 for the sake of 8mm? If the larger ones are truly 4" then they will clash with the bed, but then I have no idea which 8mm lathe would take them. All 8mm lathes have spindle height 50mm or less, as far as I know. The spindle height is, as you say, standard 50mm for W.W.
    • I have only been a member for six years & I have found this a very friendly forum although I don’t have anything to do with watches not because I don’t like watches but because I have gout in both hands so my dexterity isn’t very good, I restore torsion clocks & occasionally other antique clocks also at 72 my eyes are not what they used to be, that is why I only post on the clock forum & the lathe forum mostly . As others have said Mark it is much appreciated that  you are willing & able to do this. very many Thanks Dell
    • Ah, this is brilliant, thank you very much!
