Hello,

New to the site. I have a question about possible repair or refurb. of a Wittnauer watch. From what I have seen on the internet it has a triple date valjoux 72c mechanism?  I wound it a small amount to see if it kept time and it has for an hour. Don't want to wind it farther or attempt to adjust any of the other features until I get some advice.  It was my grandfathers watch and I assume it is 60 or more years old. Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated. Who would be qualified to work on it, Is it worth the expense to have someone go through it? Robustness of the movement (I assume it's pretty good since it still seems to be working so far)? Cost of service range( I know ) ?

Thank You

Michael

I can't help you with cost but it will certainly need servicing. All of the lubrication will be long gone by now and whilst it will still work, the parts will wear and might get damaged.

Depending where you are probably 500-700 euros/dollars/francs, maybe more, if less, probably a good sign you want someone else. The Valjoux 72 is an excellent chronograph movement, used by many makers including Patek and Rolex. It's definitely worth servicing.
