There is a good chance that it was made in my home town of Dundee. Timex were based in Dundee from 1946 to 1993 and looking at your watch I would say it would be from around 1950 give or take a few years.

PS I'm glad your posts are working now! :)

That's a bit of real interesting history, Geo. Looks like my first watch was a Scotland born. Thanks! :)

Hello bosstaki. One advice, don't, I repeat don't seperate the plates. Clean as an entire movement. I made that mistake on the Timex my good folks gave me as my first watch when I was just a kid in 1963 and am still tweeking with it. All wheels, pallet, barrel, balance and keyless works go back in together all at once. A real bugger.

You may need to look for inked numbers on the inside of the case back as the last 2 digits of the number on the dial suggests 1937, which is before the name "Timex" came in to use.

That's a great source of information Marc, it certainly looks like a watch from the thirties. I thought that with it being "Made in Great Britain" it would have been made in Dundee.

Maybe it was one made in the farmhouse with the eleven employees; that would make it worth a couple of Bob! ;)

Thanks for the reply mark, there's some good info there mate, I've had a closer look on the case back & there's no inked lettering? There's a series of faded raised lettering which I carnt make out yet? I'll keep you posted if I can find out what they say! Cheers

Aha - Kenton was the original name of Timex. You won't find this in any of the histories - which attribute it all to Waterbury - but it sounds as though your watch was on the cusp of Kenton becoming Timex. They've used a Kenton case - probably new old stock - but put Timex on the dial.

You do occasionally see Kenton watches on eBay - but no-one seems to realise that they're early Timex.
