I purchased an older Expedition WR 50M which was not running for five bucks at a second hand store.  I don't know which model or movement, but it has a yellow "E" logo at the 12:00 position, a date indicator, a leather strap, and the case is a bronze color.  The crystal was so cloudy you could barely see through it.

When I got it home, I popped off the back and put a brand new CR2016 battery in, and it started running!  I let it run for several hours and the time was correct.  The Indiglo feature did not work, but I don't care if it does.  The watch seems like a keeper, so I knew I would have to address the crystal issue.

I removed the stem after pressing the right spot (thanks to some of the postings here) and carefully took the movement out, making sure not to touch or damage the hands.  It turns out that the inside of the crystal was pretty grimey and cleaned up nicely.  I then set the movement back in place, reinserted the stem, replaced the battery, and . . . nothing.  The hands are free, the stem works correctly, but I have apparently killed the thing.  I even tried another new battery and still got no response.

Any ideas on what I may have done?  Could I have bent the battery contacts?  I'm only out five dollars but I'm not happy with myself.

Thank you for the link Watchweasol!  I looked through it, but it's all pretty basic with no troubleshooting section (I did get to brush up on my French however).  We've looked at everything through the loupe on the watch and see no model info.  The movement says "Timex Philippines" and the back has a "K4" stamped under the Timex web address.  I suppose it's very possible that this is not the original case back.

That is a genuine quartz module, made specifically for Timex, and it may be now discontinued. Power flows from the battery via pad contacts, that may be the issue.
