Because I often work on split-stem movements, I find it handy to have a full-length stem with a big plastic crown on hand for movements that I might see more than once. I set aside the original stem and crown during disassembly and use the "bench stem" while I'm putting things together and sorting everything out. The original stem gets lubricated and installed right at the end. In this case, that approach might not require swapping in and out an extender on the original stem if a long stock stem would give enough clearance.

One negative...you cannot wind or set the watch while in this holder.

hmmmm.... maybe there is a way to skin that cat 🙀 let me think on it... unless anyone else has any ideas?

I left the opening in the side of the base and ring quite large to maybe allow you to grip the crown, but appreciate this may not always be possible, especially for small movements where the crown will not extend past the outer wall of the holder.

I had to squeeze the insert in

I noticed this also, but after using the holder for a while I noticed that the ring/holder began to wear into shape (rough edges/bumps worn off) and the size became closer to the desired movement OD. Maybe with some trial and error we could add 0.5 mm (??) to the movement OD to allow for this initial bedding-in?

Below is size 10 mm movement (minimum size before model breaks):

Below is size 70 mm movement (maximum size before model breaks):

And here is the Parameters table - only need to change the red text cell at the top:

PM me if you want the link to download 🙂

This is in FreeCAD not sure if it will play nice if exporting in other formats, but I'll give it a go if you let me know what you need.

I think I managed to create a link you can download the freeCAD file:
