Hi All,

I recently purchased a Citizen 67-9119 "Spider" in reasonable condition. Unfortunately the bezel was a little worse for ware and needs replacing. I have sourced a replacement part however Im not entirely sure how to fit it. There is no room for a gasket so Im guessing it needs to be glued. Has anyone tried gluing these bezels in place? What glue did you use?

Many thanks,

Bob

As normally needed, please post good pictures of what you have at hand.

Hi Jdm,

Many thanks for getting back to me. I have attached a picture of the watch in question with both the old and new bezel close by. The old bezel simply popped out while handling and looks like it has been glued at some point in its life. The diameter of both bezels measures 33.5mm while the case opening measures also measure 33.5. However there is a tiny amount of lateral play with the new bezel which suggests that my callipers may be fractionally off on measuring the case - it is not a snug fit.

Any help or suggestions would be more than welcome (let me know if there are particular pictures I could provide that would better help).

Best,

Bob

The new bezel is quite different in look and shape, may be it's for a another case. Up to you to decide which one to use, if not a secure mechanical fitting it will have to be glued anyway.

Thanks for the pictures. Perhaps you should reach out to your supplier and let them know the problem. Maybe they can suggest a method or provide the different outer bezel.

Thanks both,

Just a note on the bezels - the picture is probably misleading, apologies. The spider has an internal, rotating chapter-ring sandwiched between the crystal and bezel. The new bezel does not come with this and I will have to press out both crystals and swap it over before I fit the new bezel. The best I can tell from my own measurements is that both bezels are comparable at least from the waist-down. The new bezel came fitted with a tall crystal fitted with a gasket while the old bezel has a thin crystal glued in (not very well) so has a slightly different look.

Reaching out the supplier is a good call, I will do that. If anyone has recommendations for glues/cements for this sort of application, that might be useful for others who come across this question - I will add any information I get from the supplier.

Thanks again,

Bob

    • That’s a nice idea, But i’m committed to providing this site as a gift to the watch repair community as my thank you for my incredible life i’ve had in this business. Ive done well and unless my financial circumstances change then i’m more than happy to foot the bill. If circumstances do change then be assured that I will make an appeal. For now, I’m comfortable with the way things are and I am extremely delighted to remove Google Ads from this site and to stop Patreon, it feels like a major step forward 🙂 Sorry, I missed your reply, I got blinded by another poster in this thread. Yes - I can confirm that I have always seen WRT as a not-for-profit website, and therefore - not a business as such. I’m lucky and have done well in my life due to a decision made in my teens to start a watch repairing apprenticeship which has sustained myself and my family for many years now. Consider this my small way of paying it forward. Ive been committed to keeping the site alive on a technical and financial level for over 10 years now and I have zero plans to change that. Thank you for your kind words by the way. And as for your wish - nobody can control what happens in life, if something happens to me I have things in place with my family but I’m just not comfortable talking about my personal business - I wish a certain person would respect that, but i’ve calmed down now - i’m only human 😄
    • Yes, exactly. I've seen a few different versions, but mine has the blue water symbol, not white.    I think it's Acrylic. The case is plastic so I would the is the lens would be too.
    • Hi there Josh, welcome to the forum.
    • From the same listing, the back side: I would guess that the back pops off rather than the front. You can see a little groove there where the caseback sits over the winding stem, rather than a case tube. Look for an indent or notch around the back. It might be possible to pry this off from almost anywhere on the back if it sits right against the rubber strap. The movement looks like it is from the Ronda RL family (015 or 115 or something? I forget which numbers have a calendar and which don't)
    • I'd expect a similar notch somewhere around the rear to pop that off.
