Hello, here is a first for me, i have been a watch hobbyist for over 2 years now.  Well today I went to service a Caraville with a AS 1904 movement, got everything cleaned and oil, have a great amplitude and beat error,  Well here is the issue, the second hand ticking like a heard of cattle grazing the pasture, but the minute hand is not moving, I can move the minute/hour hands via the crown. Disassemble and found that the second wheel has a friction pinion on it, so I am assuming its a friction fitted pinion. This is the first I have seen of this design.  I do not know how to tighten the pinion on the shaft or remove it.  Can anyone please give ma a little insight on this AS 1904 movement and let me know if I am correct about the friction fitted pinion to turn the motion works so i can tell time.

If you don't have a canon pinion remover tool, you can use a hand remover.

I made me a clipper for the tightening task, dulled the blade so it wouldn't cut into the canon pinion and a screw- nut on it that does a micrometer action so I can tighten in small increment to avoid overtightening.

I know  !!   a picture of this contraption I made helps, I see if I can post one.

I remove this OFFSET canon pinion to do the tightening. then clean, rinse and put a dab of GREASE on the arbour and refit.
