Hi, I'm learning my way around how a watch works.  Given:  A properly functioning pocket watch with a double roller.  Question:  Does the terminal point of the pin actually make contact with the safety roller other than during a shock?  I would imagine not as I've not seen or read that the roller needs lubrication.  Where then on the safety pin would contact be made, the terminal end point or one of its sides?   And where on the safety roller is the contact made by the pin?

Only curious, this isn't a problem I'm facing.  Thanks!  The readings, diagrams and vids I've seen haven't made this clear to me.

The safety pin only comes into action when there is a shock, as you pointed out. I think where contact is made on the safety pin during a shock would depend on how the entire balance wheel moved during a shock, although it would be somewhere near the tip of the pin.

Very helpful Nucejoe, many thanks!  That also helped explain the interaction of the impulse jewel with the pallet horn that I was interested in.  Thanks again,

Chadman
