hi

Got this quarttz watch today and its not going. Probably battery. But if you look close were the battery should sit its got corrosion as if the battery has leaked. When i touch the area thats corroding it comes off leaving a brass below. So what i am asking is should i remove the corroded scum or leave it. If i do remove it should i treat the area with something ( petrel, ammonia)?

I believe the top number on the back is supposed to show what country and what branch of the armed forces the watch was in. The 99 at the end of the top number means it is a uk watch but i do not know what the 6455 represents. the lower number is just the watch number??? and on the movement is eta 955112. any info on these numbers appreciated.

cheers

gary

I would mop up the loose debris with old rodico as there will be battery acid left there possibly, and the debris may make its way into the movement. The gold plating comes off the battery terminal, but it will probably be fine if it is clean enough.

6645 - NATO category of time measurement instruments

99 - UK

5417362 - Watch with date

An issued example would usually have a serial number and date stamped underneath, so it may be a civilian bought example from Silvermans shop. If you ever decide to sell then give me a shout.
