Timex Quartz M62 Stem removal and repair question

Dear all,

I recently got hooked on early quartz watches. Now I bought a package with untested Timex quartz and electric watches, among them the watch shown below, the rare M62.

It does not run and the crown does not pull out - which is the main problem for now. I do now how to remove the stem on Timex M40 family watches, but this one is different.

Does anyone have advice?

Remove the electronic parts to reveal the usual way you remove stem on a M40.

PS: the watch runs now on the second, the crown needs service, almost impossible to pull and turn (just with broken-off nails)

DOCK - yes, these early Timex quartz are extremely accurate. The original selling price for them in 1972 was $125.00 which was well above the average for other Timex watches.  What you want to be careful with when taking out the electronic bits is to keep note of which screws fit to each location because the length of them varies.  One tip I can give you is that when you refit the new stem is to add a little grease to the tip.  This improves the rotation while setting the time.

Here is my collection of the watch along with one I used for parts.  Notice the one I am missing to complete the set is the one you have.

I do have NOS crown stems for them and can list under by eBay id of pack43.

how accurate are these?  I set the itme on this one month ago and just checked - was off by maybe 30 sec.

Wow, I envy you - phantastic collection!

I will post the result of the restauration project soon. I have a spare stem and crown from an Timex electric, which fits. Will add grease - thanks for the advice! 

 

The gilt of my watch is quite worn, but still fancy looking.

I don't have the original bracelet, though.

Any spares...?

and here...the result. I put it on a leather strap, until an original Timex strap pops up.

Also, I here add a pic of another watch which I revived. A nice vintage Electric diver dated 1970 - which you also own, Mo. This one just needed a new battery and gentle push of the balance. Running just 1 sec fast per day, which is quite ok with me.

Both came from the same box with non-working Timex watches, which I had caught in the bay.

Mo, do you by any chance have a replacement plexi crystal for the Time machine? Mine is so deeply scratched that I was unable to polish by hand.

Also, an original metal bracelet would be great for the Time machine. But it looks that they are quite rare.

the electric is in really fine condition.  I should have a replacement crystal for the Timex Machine.  Where are you located?

Straps for these are has you say - rare to find. Only two that I have are with original bands.

Dear Mo, many thanks! I am in Southern Germany, so shipping is a bit of a hastle. I certainly will be glad to pay as much as you say for the crystal and shipping / packaging.

If you happen to have a spare guilt case in nice condition, I would also be interested.

sorry but, the reference materials I have do not list information on the model 62 crystal. I'm sure that since it is a basic round crystal a generic replacement can be found.  Would be must more cost effective for you as well.
