Just received this replacement mainspring for a Bulova 10CSC in one of those Buloloy Insertopak holders. This movement is an automatic but I've never seen a bridle this short (4 mm) on an automatic. Does this look as expected for those with more experience with these?

Hi Fixer,

Im not a pro but your bridle seems too short for any automatic. Did you get the mainspring working?

I have my late dad’s 10csc apart for servicing. It has an issue with the automatic works or mainspring where it suddenly dumps power (search “bzik” in the forums), so my piece might not be representative of the factory mainspring. That being said, the bridle measures 28mm from welded end to free tip. The tip is tapered in width and rounded at the end to approximately 1mm diameter.

Best,

Rob

The 10csc should have a separate bridle.

Agreed. My 10BPAC movements were the same and confused the heck out of me at first.

If you look in the barrel, you should see a bridle that slightly overlaps, and has a hook on it to catch the tail of the mainspring. You can just see it in this picture, but check out this excellent post by Jon including much better pictures.
