Don't even know if I can qualify as a Novice on mechanical watches but here goes.  Apologies for inevitable nomenclature errors.

I was looking at a really nice 14K cased Elgin ladies watch.  The crown was missing and the stem was frozen,  I took a look at it, removed the hands and dial and saw  a bunch of tar like gunk in the clutch wheel area.  Thought I might take it out and see if I could clear the biggest part of the problem and it worked pretty well; got the stem out and took out other parts so I could free the winding gear and pinion but stupidly a. didn't take pics as I proceeded and b. didn't consider the clutch lever and spring would fall out.

Miraculously, the watch is running but I can't figure out where to or how to put the clutch lever spring back in place.

I appreciate any help I can get!  Here's some pics:

For the bolt back on - I think I can still see the bolt screw popping through. 
 

Then fit the yoke on its post and make sure the top sits inside the groove of the clutch (castle)wheel. 
 

Fit the yoke spring such that the longer edge bears against the left-hand edge of the yoke. It’s usually easiest to slip in the shorter edge first, then hold it in place with peg wood or whatever you prefer while bending the longer edge into position. Do it inside a clear plastic bag if you are paranoid about it pinging. 
 

Then fit the setting lever cover / spring. There is a detent which looks like a dogleg - you need to slide this over the stud protruding from the bolt which will give it a “positive action” when switching between winding and setting positions on the crown.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I had to take a break and think and I'm going to approach it with where the spring needs to contact the lever and think that may supply the answer.  That's what came to me after reading your replies.  Fingers crossed.

And as for your wish - nobody can control what happens in life, if something happens to me I have things in place with my family but I’m just not comfortable talking about my personal business - I wish a certain person would respect that, but i’ve calmed down now - i’m only human 😄  
    • Yes, exactly. I've seen a few different versions, but mine has the blue water symbol, not white.    I think it's Acrylic. The case is plastic so I would the is the lens would be too.
    • Hi there Josh, welcome to the forum.
    • From the same listing, the back side: I would guess that the back pops off rather than the front. You can see a little groove there where the caseback sits over the winding stem, rather than a case tube. Look for an indent or notch around the back. It might be possible to pry this off from almost anywhere on the back if it sits right against the rubber strap. The movement looks like it is from the Ronda RL family (015 or 115 or something? I forget which numbers have a calendar and which don't)
    • I'd expect a similar notch somewhere around the rear to pop that off.
