Just got a telephone call a minute ago to say that the new grandchild is here - and on the boob already!

A girl - 7.5 lbs - and all doing well.

So here we are again on the merry-go-round...

Georgina? Georgette? Georgia? Georgiana, that's a good'un!

Whoa John, hud yer cuddies, it's nothing to do with me! :)

The name is Juno - which is a new one on me.

I asked Matt (my son) if he had O'Casey's play "Juno and the Paycock" in mind!

Congratulations Will - that's great news :)

According to Wikipedia, Juno is a roman goddess.

Indeed she is - I'd just never heard it applied to a newborn babe here before!

Same here, although not that different from June and that was a popular name back in the day. I think the names June and Juno are related?

Absolutely. Mmm.. thinks... she could have been called April, of course....

Congratulations Will! New granddaughter and excellent choice of name.

Juno is the wife of Jupiter in the Roman/Greek gods hierarchy! For Greece it would be Hera: The top Goddess! Patron of marriage and the home (the patron of the hearth and by extension the house/building is another different one of lesser hierarchy so to speak.

Also the name given to the month in this goddess honor as has been noted! All from the Roman times. None of them mythology deities have been forgotten and pop up in many modern literary - and other forms of art -- works. To note, a book series for teens and a series of movies based on the said books: "The Lightning Thief" and sequel(s). Already best sellers and blockbusters respectively!

Cheers,

Bob
