Hello! Almost a year ago I bought a waltham equity pocket watch at an estate sale. It has never run, and has a broken balance staff and I believe a missing jewel, but is in great condition otherwise. I need advice on how I should fix it, as I have yet to fix a pocket watch. On the same note, I have a waltham pocket watch that runs pretty fast. I dont know the exact degree as the second hand is missing. What I do know is that it has never been altered, as it sat in a box of a family member for the past 60 years. Attached are pictures of the Waltham and the Equity. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Tyjlovespocketwatches,

Not knowing how fast is "pretty fast", it's hard to be certain but it looks as if, the regulator on your Waltham has some room to move in the slow direction.

It is a wonderful to have such family heirlooms and to be among those who have cared for and valued something.  Something they have and now you can save for your future generations.  I wish you luck.

Beautiful watches!

Well, the obvious answer would be to replace the balance staff, which could mean getting or making a new balance staff, and replace the jewel. The more specific you can make your questions, the more specific the replies will be. You'll find plenty of information here and on the Internet in general, but if you run into something specific that you can't find any or too little info about there will be plenty of WRT:ers happy to help.

The regulator from the family Waltham (not the Equity) in the next-to-last photo is missing part of the regulator. Both watches are going to need a full service and some replacement parts, but If you can overcome those hurdles, you have two very nice pocket watches.
