For practice I'm servicing a Chinese auto wind day/date movement - no makers mark, and have hit a snag - I can't work out how to remove the date wheel. The day wheel has a gear on the underside and is held on with a C shaped clip - I wouldn't call it a proper circlip - I bent it slightly out of shape removing it so it looks to be malleable rather then springy. The movement winding mechanism works via an eccentric peg that operates 2 arms similar to that found on Seiko - the click spring also looks like the one found on a Seiko 7009A.
The actual date indicator is held to the date wheel with 2 tabs that bend down into a small slot, much like a 1950's tin plate toy, the tab is visible through a hole in the recess machined for the mainspring barrel, this hole is big enough to be able to bend the tab back so it is no longer holding, the tabs can be seen at the 16/17 position and also the 1/31 position - on top there are 3 screw heads visible - 1 can be removed another is partially covered by the date wheel and the other is almost fully covered by the date wheel (close to the cap jewel) , if I loosen the one screw and gently lift the date wheel I can see the plate moving under the screw head so it looks as if these screws need to be removed to get the date wheel off, but how to if they are obscured. 
Any help is appreciated.

Sorry I don't know the answer to your question but have one word of advice from experience, these are the worse in class of the Chinese mov.ts, are not built to be ever serviced or repaired becase they are made very poorly and break easily when manipulated. So what is being done for practice can turn to be a futile or frustrating exercise. 

The pinned topic below has good advice about which mov.ts are recommended to beginners.

Thanks for the 'advice' - I spent a few hours on and off examining the date wheel and could not see any way to get the wheel off with out removing the date disk by bending the tabs - after reading the forum 'advice' I thought since the movement is junk, not meant to be serviced and only fit for bin it won't  matter if I break it - so I gently bent back one of the tabs through the hole in the main spring barrel recess, while supporting the date disk so as not to distort it - the date disk came away from the date wheel exposing 3 screws - nothing has broken, but it is not meant to be taken apart too many times the tab will ultimately fatigue and break. My description of the issue may not have been very clear so some extra photos may help to visualise - time to take a break and try to identify the movement.

After looking at a few teardown videos on youtube I can see that some asian movements have a date ring that sits on top of the date wheel located with a couple of tabs that fit into cutouts on the date wheel, the date ring simply lifts off - I'm going to try and not bend the tabs over and just let date ring sit on top not sure if this will cause issues with the day ring that sits over the top.
The date wheel itself is quite roughly made I can feel and see the roughness so I'll probably do a bit of polishing work on it. From photos I've seen on the internet the movement is almost certainly a Seagull ST16.
