Ok so i have a 1897 Elgin pocket watch its a seven jewel watch and the issue is that when i wind it the main spring will wind almost all the way then it will slip then i have to rewind it but the watch does run and the watch is about a inch and a half it is really small

Hi  what you have got is a broken mainspring or it come away or broken off the the anchor point in the barrel. Either way the watch needs stripping down and the spring replacing and the watch serviced whilst in pieces.

Beautiful old Elgin, by the way.  But yes, Watchweasol knows: mainspring is broken.  Double-check the anchor point in the barrel too, when you strip it down, to make sure that has not also been damaged. 

That piece is a real looker. The case looks gorgeous too from what I can tell.

hey thanks i took it apart and it had a broken mainspring
