I bought a preowned Citizen Seven watch and knew that the calendar function would not turn when the stem is in the first position. I can pull the stem out and set the time, and also the calendar, from the second position. But, I'd like to fix the problem with the first position. I'm game to explore this on my own, watch a few repair vids, etc., to take a shot at repair (learn by trial and error 🙂 ), but wanted to check in here and see if this is a common problem and if so, is it easy to know now what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Hello and welcome to the forum.   Pictures of the watch and movment would be appreciated and of the caliber number.  Does the calendar turn ok as normal when the watch is running and only fail when using the stem,  The problem could be a misplaced wheel and or detent / spring the only way is to remove the movement and investigate.  Have a read  through the attached document to familiarise yourself with the movements etc.

Thanks - I will review the document and I'm looking forward to going in at some point to see if I can find the problem.

Yes, watch seems to run fine - just the use of the stem.

Number on case is 40626588 and I've attached a photo of the movement still in the case.

That is, quick set doesn't work.

The numbers don't matter. Your watch uses the most economical 2110A module (attached the service manual), it has been then been replaced by the Miyota (Citizen) 2115 which is nearly identical. Since these are very economical, the normal practice is to replace for any malfunction. If you want instead to tackle your vintage piece, be aware that there is no great chance that it will be all OK when put together, on the other hand, one has to begin somewhere.

As jdm has said Its the Miyota 2110A a common enough movement fitted to many watches. TThe watch functions ok so just the quick set is failing. Withe the service guide jdm supplied you should be able to find the problem. These movements are cheap enough to purchase whole from the likes of Cousins UK, so should replacement be the path no great cost.  good luck.
