I'm working on a Seiko 6205 and the balance runs ok in dial down but stops dial up. As I slowly move the watch from dial down to up I hear a clunk and then the balance slows and stops . I have removed the pallet fork and the balance is not moving freely dial up. I have change the balance staff and I'm still having the same problem. Otherwise works well dial down!

As an aside is the pivot of the staff supposed to be long enough to touch the diashock cap jewel because from what I can see the thicker bit of the staff is possibly touching the balance cock bridge so stops. What usually keeps it sitting higher and not binding?

Apologise for any wrong terminology etc. Thanks in advance for any input.

Hi  Sounds like the staff is dropping on to the cap jewel and its shoulders are contacting the setting,  What you need to do is to check the pivots of the staff to make sure they are intact and not broken.  If both are ok then check the end shake on the staff.  fit the balance on its own with the cock and move the watch du to dd and see if it drops of its own accord(may have a bent pivot).  What have you done to the watch, service etc? and can you supply some pictures of the movement in question please..             cheers

Yes i have serviced the movement. I even swapped cap jewels. As I said I changed the balance staff because of the problem and still the weird clunk. I will try to supply pictures in a couple of days. Thanks for the answers so far.
