Hello,

I have a Watch in my possession that may possibly be worthy of restoration, but not sure if the movement is of good quality.

I won't be taking on the job myself, as I don't have the required skills yet.

But will be passing it on to someone else, possibly.

The movement in question is an Automatic France Ebauches FE Cal. 5611

Thoughts on this movement welcome.

I've had a few pass thru my hands. Not impressed by the quality and I usually found myself rushing just to get it done and out of my sight.

Having said that, Its your watch and only you know if its really worth it?

Can you expand on that at all?

1. Finishing of the plate leaves a lot to be desired.

2. Quality of the screws .. ditto.

3. Hairspring quality does not look as good quality as ETA or other swiss mfg.

4. Ratchet in autowind reversing gear is weak and spares are hard to get.

Basically it feels that it was built down to a cost with quality coming second.

Just my thoughts

Your thoughts are very welcome.

Food for thought indeed.

May look for a better movement, and keep the original as well.

Any thoughts on an alternative movement.?

Why change the movement to another ? I would keep the watch as original as possible . Changing the movement into something else is never an option for me .

hi, for questions like this it would be a good idea to give us some pics as in my limited experience the movement in most cases is the easiest bit to restore, the dial and case can make restoration cost prohibitive

It looks like I got this one wrong then! (Where's the embarrassed smiley when you need it)

Well that's just my opinion...anyone else who has worked on one of these like to chip in?

The FE140 is more popular...but similarly, I go out of my way to avoid them.
