HI,

Just getting started with this hobby and I am working on my first watch, a Sheffield MinStop Parking Meter style watch with a Durowe 391-4 movement.  I have successfully removed the balance wheel assembly and the winding stem but cannot seem to get the movement out of the case.  I am attempting to remove it from the back; first is that correct?  I cannot even get the slightest wiggle out of the movement. What am I missing?

Thanks,

Curt

Not all watches remove from the back eventhough the case back is removed, Its quite likely that this is a "front loader" in as much that the case bezel and glass have to be removed and the movement removed from the front.  Look round the edge of the bezel for a small notch for the case knife. Sometimes the glass and bezel are removed in one and at others the glass has to be popped out using air pressure by refitting the back and pumping air in through the stem tube using a syringe.

All good advice, thank you.  There seems to be a seam between the case and bezel but it is very tight and there is no notch to lever a case knife into.  I can't get the knife into the seam either.  I'll have a go at trying to pressurize the case with a syringe through the stem tube however I'll need to remove the pusher button for the minstop reset so I can plug that hole.  How does one remove a pusher button?

Thanks, Curt

The pusher buttons are removed from the inside by removing a small clip.  If you use a safty razorblade or A hobby knie to try and open the seam enough for a case knife please use safety gloves and be very careful.  the seal in the pusher will probably be enough to hold the pressure and perform the pressuriseation inside a bag so that the glass/bezel dont take flight.

Here are a few more pics.  I am beginning to suspect that it is not a seam between the case and bezel, but just a slight bench/step in the case for aesthetics.  Maybe this side pic will reveal some clues for those of you with a more experienced eye.  I tried the syringe/pressure technique that was suggested to no avail; seems like air is escaping from the pusher button; it is quite jiggly and probably needs replacement.  Also, I don't think the button clip is accessible in its current state.

Cheers
