Main plate top side. Non-jeweled centre wheel bearing.

I'm restoring and servicing an Enicar calibre A-R 161 and noticed that the centre wheel might benefit from a slight end-shake adjustment (nothing critical though). However, having a closer look at the jewel on the centre wheel cock, it looked like it might be a two piece jewel. This made me pause, as pressing the jewel(s) might lead to just pressing two jewels together without any simple way to rectify it. To me it sure looks like there could be two separate jewels in the hole, but I really can't tell. I've seen this type of jewel(s) in movements having a similar design but never had any reason to considered it before. So, the question is, can I adjust the end-shake or should I leave it alone? (Yes, I realize I will have to adjust the fourth wheel train wheel bridge jewel if a touch the centre wheel cock jewel)

No one who's pushed this type of jewel bearing out of its bridge to have a closer look? One or two jewels, that's the question 🤔

Just went through my box of scrap movements and found two having this type of construct. I'll take them apart and will see what it reveals.

I haven't seen this before but I am currently working on an AS1702 and it has a strange two jewel centre jewel. The upper jewel is pressed into a screw retained chaton. I'll take a photo of it when I get home.

Does it say the jewel count on the dial?

Brilliant thinking Joe!!! 😀

Yes, 17 jewels! As shown in the picture, this movement doesn't have a jeweled centre wheel bearing. Hmm... I'll count the jewels and will get back.

Dr ranfft says, in early samples minute wheel running on ruby stud, I gather wasn't so on late samples, so the question comes to mind, where did the jewel go instead?

This renders what I was thinking inconclusive.

Regs.

I don't think so! Counting all jewels I get 16 if I count the centre wheel cock jewel as one jewel. So, I think we can somewhat safely assume that the centre wheel cock bearing contains two separate jewels making the total jewel count 17.

So, I have an early sample!

I guess I won't be touching that centre wheel cock jewel. The end-shake wasn't too bad anyway...

Thanks for your input joe, much appreciated!

    • Thanks for the question. Absolutely nothing has changed in that regard. As you know, I have a points system set-up on the watchfix site and points accrued will never be removed unless used by the user who owns them.
    • Ok, an update. I've attached some pics showing the dimensions of the crystal in question.  As you can see it's quite thick at 4.9mm. I haven't found a decent match yet with GS catalog, I may end up having to grab a few that are close and apply trial/error at this point. Any recommendations from some of you with a heavy vintage Bulova background would be appreciated. p.s. The bezel is in good shape but would not turn at all.  Were these bezels fixed?  It did come off after soaking it a while, along with a rubber gasket inside, which makes me believe it is supposed to turn and is held in place by a thick o-ring (?). Thanks.
    • hello from minnesota, love to tinker with stuff, im 40, getting more stubborn lol, issues arise when i could pay someone to fix something for me,but i just never do it. always learning new skills
    • I damaged this watch years ago in a hot tub, took it apart and let it dry pretty quickly. but i am trying to repair it again and the second hand keeps stopping i finally pushed it past its stuck point on the 13 to 15 second point. it keeps time for 3 to 4 minutes , then jams again and it skips back and forth then stops and the minute hand stops moving with the seconds. not sure if its corrosion or the coil is bad. i cannot find another ronda 5030d with the same dials  i would like to buy a repair kit on amazon if i can clean corrosion or replace the coils. but pretty since its a rare battlefield game watch id love to fix it. also my favorite game. https://imgur.com/a/0QWwRIS
