I had been tasked with cleaning this watch and finding a replacement strap
as it was filthy and my mate was struggling to find a large curved leather strap.

Its cleaned up very nice considering the state it was in and i managed to get a nice
replacement strap from Cousins for just under a tenner delivered, but i need to try and
get rid of the scratches on the cyclope lens, which are quite deep, therefore i thought i'd
reach out for advice on whether i should use wet and dry sandpaper, or a felt pad on the dremmel
with some polishing compund. Or just leave it be as it's probably cheap plastic.

I also wanted to show the watch off, as the movement shows no manufacturers details through the
glass case back and it looks like a german copy of Miyota's 9132 movement, however on the miyota movement
the power reserve numbers are reversed out.

therefore without opening it up, i was curious to see if anyone has come across anything similar.

The watch was supplied for the Hyundai car industry, which is why it carries the logo on the dial
and the code on the metal part of the case back reads DE77344791 in case it rings any bells.

That is a Chinese mov.t, and not even true copy since as you noted it's different in various details. Germany has not manufactured popular movements (but they have very few premium ones) since many decades. The watch be presented however as to have some associations with Germany.

cheers JDM, just realised i wrote down the wrong reference number, should have been 7745, which led me to this Lexus watch

https://www.catawiki.com/en/l/9218527-lexus-de-77454791-chronograph-men-s-wristwatch-germany-from-2005

So i expect the German's are having them made in china for the car industries, such as Lexus, Volkeswagon and hunundai etc.

It's gaining about 30 seconds a day in dial up, with a beat error of 2.4, which i might give a tweak at a later stage if he starts wearing it on a regular basis, as he only wants to use it as an occaisional dress watch at the moment.

What would you advise on the cyclopse lens

If it's plastic it can be polished by hand with any household compound. Another option is to remove it completely with a bit of heat, maybe a drop of acetone.

thanks, i guess if i go for the first option, then worse case senario, i can remove it.  I think it would look better without it.

cheers

Balls, why would they lower their brand by association with cheap crap. Chinese junk.

Does the logo at the 9 o'clock position look like Hyundai?

Why does anyone use chinese manufacturing? Usually comes down to cost.
