Pocket watch--no screws for cap jewels--how to remove

Title says it all.  How do I remove the cap jewels?  Same issue on the dial side.  Seems to be some split ring scheme.

You will need to punch out the cap jewel with the upper balance jewel from the back, I think.

Unless that little notch is for a screwdriver blade to loosed the rim

Hmmm  I think you will need to remove the balance and have a look from the underside, It may be friction fit or as JD said the split ring but it needs further investigation at this point.

I did remove the balance and HS. No screws...all friction fit.

There may be a case of using a jeweling press or staking tool to remove the complete setting .

Not gonna do it!  Not that brave.  I have looked through both jewels with high power microscope and backlighting.  They are are in pretty good shape.  Taking the Hypocratic oath on this one.  It is for a friend.  He will watch it tick a couple of days and put it back in a drawer.

With all the unanswered questions thats probably the right descision, life has enough problems without making more.. Remember if its not broke dont fix it.
