Hi all,

I'm trying to take a Camerer Cuss with a AS 1240 movement apart. Its a old one which was got for practice.

The stem tube which goes into the case is missing and water has been leaking in resulting in the stud/screw on which the setting lever pivots is rusted in.  Screw wont move, but the setting lever does move . The problem is in my mind that when I put it back together again I cant fit the winder stem as the setting lever is in the way.

Everything I've tried, rust remover nor wd 40 type stuff has not worked. They has not freed the screw and now I'm beginning to wonder if it would have had a split stem and the stud/screw is not meant to turn be moved even though there is a worn screwdriver slot in it..

The winder stem doesn't seem original as the stem is very loose and the crown is golden and the case is silver coloured.

I hope I have explained it enough as I don't have a picture as I cant magnify the problem screw enough.

Any ideas thoughts would be welcome.

Hi  Take a look at the site  "Ranfft  AS1240"  this will bring up the specification and other useful data.  Srip the watch down leaving just the setting leber screw and stem in the plate then soak in coke for an hour or two. The acid in the coke dissolves the rustbut be carefull to give it a good wash afterwards.  alternativly get hold of some rust removing fluid and do the same.

I have had a look at Ranfft AS1240 before  but the only thing is  that there are two stems listed W1138 and W1206. I dont know if one is a split stem

I will try the coke, hope pepsi will do instead.

I have rust remover but it didn't seem to have much effect. Mabye I will leave it in longer
