I have an old josmar that, after replacing the mainspring noted that a jewel was missing. I repair only for a hobby so cannot justify buying the expensive gear. 

Can somebody direct me or help to do this with basic tools.

Your only realistic option is to find a replacement bridge, cock or whatever, where all the jewels are present and correct.

I suggest to watch this playlist for the how-to: 

 

While professionals use specialized tools, all you need is a way to push the old jewel out of the bridge and to push (perpendicularly) the new jewel in. I doubt you can do it by hand and you need some sort of setup to ensure some level of control. For instance, I have a Sherline milling machine and lathe and if the need would arise, I could probably adapt it for such a job, given that I could machine the appropriate inserts.
