I have been given an AVOMETER 8, nice condition, last calibrated in 1998 by RS servicepoint, battery compartment in reasonable condition. The RS "Intergrity seal" is still intact.

It does'nt work, needle appears to be seized.

Now I know it will be cheaper to replace with a digital meter, than to have it professionally repaired.

Are there repair guides for these meters?

That looks like a really nice meter! I'm not an electronics guy, but I know a few and they tend to like digital for some things and analog for others; most seem to have a Simpson or other quality analog on hand. I have both but have never serviced on of my analogs.

You've probably already found this site, seems to have a lot of info, but nothing on servicing the meter display itself that I saw- but only had a quick look.

They are classics Used both the AVO8  and its mate the Taylor 8  Both the same thing I think although I never tinkered with them other than fuses and batteries.  From memory there was a sprung cutout on the front panel just below the scale.

It’s been a long time since I used one but I seem to remember the ones we were issued with in the British army had a lock for the needle to prevent damage whilst moving them around
