Thought I'd finally finished, but when re-setting the chrono second hand, it resets about 2s earlier each time.

I can't figure out what's causing it - sound like a wheel is one tooth out each time ?

Either the hand tube is slipping on the pivot, or the tube is slipping in the hand (both frequently seen), or the arbor is loose in the wheel or cam is loose on the arbor (rather rare).

If a stable difference: hand not correctly set initially.

No, it's an extra second or two each time I reset.

Fixed. The seconds hand was slipping - I just needed to push it on harder.  I've read that these movements are known for stripping the hand tubes, so I didn't push it on too hard.
