Hey guys

Last part now on this zodiac 88. The keyless parts seem to be a bit amiss, If i wind it up as it stands nothing happens. To make it wind up i have to press the crown and stem in and hold it in and turn. This will wind it up a bit but its very hit and miss. If i return to normal position nothing happens when i turn it. If i pull the crown and stem out it turns the hands which it should do.

Have i done something wrong with the keyless setup???

cheers

gary

Hi Gary  If the sliding pinion is not reaching the intermediate gear It will be a case of removing parts and scrutinising the movement of the pinion in relation to the other parts. Not able to connect to Ranfft at this time but It might be use full to get an image .

I can't access the site either.  What's with the barrel stating "do not open " ?

Common on high beat movements, this is 36,000boh. I once opened a barrel off a perfectly working movement and the spring just broke, even before I messed with it!

probably a worn winding pinion or the winding wheel. Also check if the hole where the stem goes in the movement is worn as this will affect the handwinding.

It looks like it's together right. Make sure everything is well lubricated, there's a lot going on in this system. You might find that just oiling the sliding pinion where it fits on the stem helps. Otherwise it could be like Anliv says, a worn sliding and/or winding pinion.
