Hi,

Is it possible to put a new hole on the inner end of a mainspring, where it hooks onto the barrel arbor? I've a couple where this has broken off due to problems with my winder. The simplest solution is just to get a new mainspring, but I am trying to learn as much as I can so thought I would ask. I've seen various topics in De Carle etc., but they seem to refer to repairing the outside end of the spring and the barrel. Thanks

it is quite difficult to do this on the inner coil of the mainspring. It may be better to purchase a new one.

For the "academic" answer, I'd say, there is this pliers like instrument -- Geo shows one somewhere in the forum -- that allows to open a hole on a mainspring...now how to get to the inner coil and do it, that would be a trick! I would definitely go the way Mark suggests!

Cheers,

Bob
