You might also have a look on the accutron site at rephrasing where they also cover the phenomenon called double and triple indexing, if it is not the battery the watch may need rephrasing to resolve issues

Thanks Guys ,  I tried an accucell and it would only run and stop each time I pulled the crown out and in . It has a 344 cell now .  I also think that it's as you both suggest ...Indexing and phasing . 

I am expecting delivery of a stereo microscope any day now . The magnification will be good , but it has an led light ring around the lens which should greatly help in adjusting the indexing . My lighting setup is not very good for that operation .

Thanks for the replies fella ......  Well , I have an inexpensive micro camera from China called Microcapture . I decided to hook it up to my computer to look at the movement with the accucell in it...it was stoping and starting . This camera  is 20x but it has led lights that illuminate the index fingers and I can see them with a 10X loupe and on my computers screen . I first checked the hacking distance as described in the manual and it looked OK with the crown out . When I pushed the crown in it looked like the pawl jewel was at the wrong angle to the Index wheel . The jewel looked as if it was angled down too much instead of being parallel . So I said a hail-mary and started to correct the angle a little at a time , and lo and behold , the watch started running a little longer with each small adjustment .

  Even though I still have to figure out the phasing part , it is at least running with the lower voltage Accucell . I was/am intimidated working on this index stuff . 

I'm an electrician and I don't get this spooky working on energized 480 Volt circuits .

Congratulations on what you have done so far, it is good that you were able to perceive what each slight adjustment acheived and that will add to the bank of knowledge.

Great! On these watches everything has to be perfectly aligned and adjusted not much room for error. Each time you learn more and as Vic said it goes in the knowledge bank. Great work!

I can't seem to access the Accutron Page lately . I am trying to get the info on phasing for silver oxide batteries  but can't connect . Does any one have this info or is anyone else also also having a problem connecting ?

That's weird I just used the link above and hot straight in ! Maybe someone else can try it to see if it is a problem only at your end.

Thanks guys . I'll keep trying . I even used a different browser . I'll take my laptop to a wi-fi spot and see if that works .

 

BTW , I just got my Stereo microscope today and man is the box heavy . The post lady couldn't carry it and I struggled carrying it up my stairs .  The bottom plate alone weighs 28 pounds . and the postage was $160.00 from Minnesota to Hawaii . I'm itching to put it together and try it out but I'm operating on my washing machine right ....what an expensive hassle that is .

      This conversation is becoming a very confusing. The etachron system is a very nice system for manufacturing watches. As you know it consists of two components the stud and the regulator pins. Beautiful thing of this system is you can open up your regulator pins center the hairspring and as you close the pins they will close equally on both sides providing you centered it in the first place. It's not like you're going to become closer to one side or the other as the definition of the regulator pins is a bit confusing it's not exactly a slot sort of. I'm thinking maybe a little eight reading will be helpful for you. Then the file name was changed by me at the US patent but the wording of Seiko may or may not actually be attached to it soared up? I just did that so I can find it in my files. Normally patents are in people's name if they work for a company the company name will be there you'll notice the person lives in Japan which is interesting as the name would imply that this is a Swiss product. Somewhere I think I have the patents for the stud and I believe that is Swiss like a lot of things their Japanese and Swiss and then the Japanese let the Swiss name stand as it seems you more popular in case as you read up on the patents of the regulator pins or pin will see and it should explain exactly how and why it works also why it's important to always close at an open in specific directions because the pins actually have a shaped to them it's very hard to see the shape as it's very tiny.   As a reminder with this system it's mass-produced. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they use cameras and computers to do all of the adjustments.  The meaning of this is that the majority of watches will function as there supposed to and do what they're supposed to do the system will allow us for some minor in tolerance and has more than likely as I said no human hand is ever touched those watches that's the way they left the factory and they work fine.       I bought an old Bergeon 5555. The bottom of the tank was full of petrified salts, which also corroded the metal parts a bit. I would use just distilled water.
