Listed on eBay are a set of different sized Bergeon Roller Cutters. Way out of my budget but also I don't have a clue to what there intended function is. Does anybody know what these tools are used for?Screenshot_2023-05-07-11-40-05-174_com_ebay.mobile.thumb.jpg.c7a305a9f77f115af9007dae685d3334.jpg

Keep an eye out bigstevie i picked up six last week for £8.50 not labled Bergeon but old and good quality. Used for countersinking and deburring. They sometimes called sink rollers.

It's always crazy to see old used, sometimes broken stuff on Ebay for more than new price. Full set is just of 60 pounds at Cousins, 20 something individually.

I have a couple of old steel sets that have seen a lot of use; recently got some tungsten carbide ones from Slick, quite a bit more at 260 CHF, but worth it for me. The steel ones do do a good job.

They are used to make countersinks to hold oil and they will remove burr from holes.

I still don't understand what these tools are used for. Where and in what context would those countersinks be made? A nice Bergon set is on auction on Swedish eBay for about £37 (the buy-now price).

That reminds me Rich, I use a similar tool to deepen the hole for dial feet*. I'll try it on countersinking and deburring

*If I cut the hole deep enough with my dial feet cutter tool, the spike in the middle marks the dial. So I use it to start the hole, then was looking for something to deepen the cut. I tried all sorts of grinding wheels on the Dremel but all were hard to control (stone wheels) or cut too aggressively (diamond). I found this cutter is perfect. Small and easy to control, and leaves a smooth surface.  And cheap 😃

Rollersinks....a screw may need a chamfered seat to sit flush. Or a bearing might perform better if it has an oil sink added to it. I think they come in two versions,  one that cuts and one that burnishes, the wheel profile would determine that H.

They also deburr after reaming a wider hole for a jewel setting.

Or closing a hole ---- peen- broach- deburr.
