Hi

This is a bit of an odd one…I’m not a watch collector. here goes…

I’ll try to keep it short but I do tend top waffle

In 1925 Gerald Murphy (Artist)

Wiki Link  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_and_Sara_Murphy

completed a painting entitled ‘Watch’ which now hangs in the “Dallas Museum of Art”

I am a amateur picture researcher and would like to identify the make and model No. that inspired this work

He is well known for his quiet graphically accurate technique so i think there might be some clues that are over my head,  I could really do with some greater knowledge,  and what better than people who regularly see the insides of watches, hence the contact.

My observations

Obviously I have looked at every page on the internet with a picture of watch mechanisms. (Well maybe not every page).

If the number 483689 is a serial number I have checked numbers against databases on the net

The markings on what I think is called the balance cock (Hope I got that right) confuse me I’m sure the ‘F ‘means something.

The watch Face may be more artistically represented

The closest match I could find was a Bulova 10AA (That seemed to have the right kind of layout)

I have attached an image of the painting for a more detailed picture you can click on the Museum Link

Thank you for reading this far

Michael

ps the watch may  pre-date 1925

I can’t help too much but the F  you refer to is for fast, the stylised S next to it is for slow. This is very common on balance bridges where the fine tune regulator is. It is very stylised artwork, I very much doubt that there is a specific movement you could pin it down too. My gut feeling looking at it would be that it is loosely based on an old pocket watch movement.

sorry I can’t be more helpful
