Hello,

Good day. I am looking to remove the watch glass so that I can retrieve the dial and fixed in a new quartz internal movement. I can't seem to remove the glass and it can only be removed from the front.

I tried using an air pump(bicycle wheel pump) to remove the glass. The back cover pop out instead. I did a couple of trial and error and the back cover came out each time.

There is a visible bezel on the front. I tried using a jack knife / Stanley knife over it and it don't seemed to come off.

The glass is nicely fitted in to the watch. I am unsure if the crystal lift would help as crystal crawls is unable to hold on to the glass.

Any advice on how to remove the glass ? Does someone has a previous experience handling this watch ?

Appreciate your thoughts and advice.

Thanks,

NT

I had the same problem yesterday with a very tight caseback on a caravelle. My standard case opener nope , a bezel remover nope, a thin flat blade from a craft knife nope. A new single sided razor blade found the gap and lifted enough to use the standard to pop the bonnet.  Sometimes you just need the thinnest edge you can find.

Thanks for all your inputs guys.  An update, I tried using the Stanley knife and the one sided razor to remove the bezel with no success. But I read from another post in this forum that another person manage to remove the bezel of this brand of similar watches using the Stanley knife.

I decided to give up (due to cost and time). As your hand might be hurt by the Stanley knife in the progress, you risk scratching the metals parts of the watch and time and patience is needed to testing out/figuring out a quartz watch. The watch is light weight, looks attractive and shiny for sure.  Changing the internal movements and setting up the watch hands is a standard procedure.

Perhaps anyone looking at changing this watch glass might consider:

1) using the watch press to break and replace with a new glass (cost is affordable).

2) using the sharp blade and hammer on the bezel

3) using the bezel removing tool as suggested by Hector above.

The community here is kind and responsive. Cheers for all the advises

Have a good run at 2023 🙂

    • Thanks Mark I have uBlock Origin Lite add-on for my Windows Chrome browser, so I've never seen a single ad on this site ! It also removes all adds from Youtube - I couldn't bear to watch it without uBlock
    • Thanks Mark, but can we still discuss the other important matter please and not be distracted from it. Thank you.
    • You're probably not going to see a dramatic change but you should probably figure out what the lift angle is as it probably is not 52°
    • In tandem with my last post regarding the removal of Google Adsense on this website - I have also decided to fully self fund this site as a gift to the watch repair community of which I’ve been a member of, and have benefited from since being extremely lucky to gain an apprenticeship back in the late 80s.    Well, that means that I have also closed down my Patreon account - or, to be clear, stopped all future transactions on my Patreon account and this is with immediate and permanent effect.    not to mention, but I will, I really really do appreciate the contribution all my patreon and PayPal supporters have provided over the years, you guys have been absolutely awesome and helped to keep this forum alive and available for those who might not be able to afford the payments.    again, from the bottom of my heart thank you.
    • My pleasure. I would rather pay more than have those annoying ads ruin this site. They were a terrible idea and something I never even saw much, but I was on my iPad yesterday testing a security update for the forum software and it was impossible. I decided then - they had to go!!! Also, co-incided with this, for those who are paying for pattern in order to help fund this site - I’ve just disabled patreon. Future monthly payments will not be taken.  PayPal is a little more complicated. I will try to work out how to cancel the few subscriptions but if you are a PayPal donator then please feel free to cancel the monthly sub.  I will, however thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping to contribute to this site financially - it means a lot. But going forward, I’m funding it personally from my pocket and that’s the end of it 😄
