Hello all.  A post earlier get me thinking about music/ bands.  What are you into? I  have a very eclectic taste ranging from thrash metal to classical, both in small doses though and most things in-between.  If I  had to listen to only two groups on pain of death, simple.  You've probably never heard of them, both Dutch by coincidence, Epica and Within Temptation . You'll probably think I'm weirder than ever now, hehe.

The wife and I are annual subscribers to the local symphony, so classical is definitely appreciated. Favorite composer would be Edvard Grieg. We also have a local Jazz festival every year. I'm a big Chuck Mangione fan and would also include Pat Metheny in my top 2 jazz performers. There was an English band in the '70s called Renaissance that I still enjoy. Heck, I'll even suffer the teenage angst of Taylor Swift from time to time. 😉

My desert island song is Blessed Feet by the Tord Gustavsen Trio. Piano jazz. Some sort of Scandahoovian going by the name.

Always love Norah Jones. We grew up in the same time and place, went to the same university (briefly for her part). I worked in a music store in high school that I'm sure she got music from given market and location, and I'm sure our paths crossed, but she wasn't famous then and would have just been another face in the crowd.

Melody Gardot is another good one. Dave Brubeck for the odd meter. The Bad Plus. Just about anything that grooves on odd meter and a bit of dissonance. If it doesn't have something to challenge, it's just kinda boring.

Not much activity in the Relaxation Zone recently, so I thought I'd stir things back in to action with "Gran Vals" by Francisco Tarrega.
 


 

.. of course, you might also like "Capricho Arabe", or indeed "Recuerdos de la Alhambra".

I'm not at all in to classical - my tastes are more to hard rock & blues rock, plus a lot of one-offs where one track really grabs me while the rest of the bands music is so-so. My lifelong likes are such as Free / Bad company & Deep Purple, some early Black Sabbath, Dire Straits etc. to give you an idea.

This is one of the one-offs that I can listen to endlessly & should hopefully be acceptable to most:-

 

And a bit of Black Sabbath to follow - that you have probably never heard (or knew was by them) unless you were a sabbath fan!

👍yep i forgot i liked Free, mines a little eclectic but mostly rock and blues DeepPurple,Rainbow,Sabbath,Zeppelin, Whitesnake, Marillion, Santana, Gary Moore, Thin Lizzy, AC DC, Guns and Roses, ZZ Top, Def Leppard, Aerosmith,Van Halen, Heart,Thunder, Paul Weller, BB king, John Lee Hooker, anyone that makes heavy use of the pentatonic box, Tenacious D, Mark Knopler, Peter Gabriel, Genesis, Steve Miller, Eagles,Queen,Fleetwood Mac, Floyd, Foo Fighers, Chilli Peppers, etc. etc 🙂

And what an amazing combination of acoustic guitar and sax by Stewart and Dulfer, she can play my saxophone any day of the week 😉.

In September, we're going to see Epica in Amsterdam, playing with a whole orchestra.  I've been to most European countries but not the Netherlands.  October is Lacuna Coil (Italian) in Bournemouth, I get to see my daughter as she lives there.  November, it's Within Temptation , in Leeds.

I have so much music on my P C some I have never played I like collecting from little known bands as well as the normal rock. Two bands I have been listening to these past few weeks Widespread Panic I think I have nearly everything by them.  Mostly Autumn I have all their stuff.   

I can't stand this modern pop crap such as Taylor Swift type rubbish and that rap crap.

Totally agree, all the music I like is as least proper music.  Written and performed by themselves.

      Keevo, Welcome to the group ! I'm thinking that you have some damage to the hour, and/ or minute wheel. Possibly just a bent, otherwise damaged, or missing tooth.   Your photo didn't post that I can see. I think you'll have to open it to start really finding the issue. Best, Randy

      In cap jewels on several watches I have serviced over the years. I've recently serviced a couple of Longines movements where the cap jewels were colourless. They are a real pain. Without colour they disappear when immersed in any liquid for cleaning 😲 Not necessarily. Cousins do a 10ml bottle for £26 which will last me for years. That's just half the price of a simple Bergeon silicone cushion, so not too expensive 🤣

      I wanted to post an update as I have two movements running really well now, 230-250 amplitude , 0.5 and under beat error, and +/-8 seconds or so. I removed the hairspring assembly in order to start over and noticed that the terminal curve between the stud and regulator arm was distorted. The stud was lower than it should be. I massaged the curve to look pretty good and reinstalled it. I followed Alex's video advice, best I could with 10x magnification, and with the regulator arm set in the middle of the curve I adjusted the stud so the spring was centered. I then made sure I could move the regulator arm the entire terminal curve without upsetting the coils. I then put it back on the Timegrapher and began closing down the regulator pins until I saw a change in amplitude which means to me that the pins were now pinching the spring. I opened them slightly and it looks good except I have a 0 on dial down, +3 on dial up but -16 on crown down.  I'm a bit stuck on how to adjust out the positional error. I also noticed a drop in amplitude, 180-200 on crown down. In the other video link I posted at about minute 26 if I remember he adjusts out positional error by manipulating  the regulator pin gap. With crown down the hairspring falls away from the pin and the rate slows so he closes the pins a bit to keep them tighter in crown down position. That means the spring is tighter on dial up as well but then he moved the regulator arm to slow the movement.  There must be some Seiko experts here that have some methods for dialing out positional errors.
