The cannon pinion is pressed onto the off-center center wheel in this Omega 1001.

Sorry for the blurry shot; it's the best one I had.

The tech sheet suggests:

It is recommended to support the upper third wheel pivot whilst placing the small cannon pinion.

But I'm trying to think how I would do that. I was hoping someone with experience on this movement could weigh in.

This is to prevent the stone on the other side from breaking when canon is pressed. You can put the canon before assembling the movement, but this is if the 3th wheel when in place will not prevent the other wheels to get in place. The other way is to assemble the train and then to put the movement on something that the pivot tip will lay on and thus the pinion will not press the stone when canon is installed.

It's always interesting with the watch companies is how the technical documentation changes with time. So while at one time Omega what I have a documentation specific to your watch later on they don't they just consolidate common things into one technical documents. Where conveniently skip over a whole bunch of other stuff then In any case you are asking about cannon pinion For the third whale this is what they have how to remove it. The important note on lubrication or not to lubricated and that looks like a staking set punched push it on? Don't see any reference to supporting it on the back side image.png.180f3e02cbca3fa911e0ba5bbb749cb5.png

There is no a reference to movement holder for fitting the hands.
