Hello there everyone 👋 I am new to the forum and in fact the hobby….

I’m not 100% of the name of this part, I am still rather new to this, but as I removed it I noticed it came off in two pieces and get the impression it’s not meant to…. I’d really appreciate any information possible so I can go on to try and source a part.

Using information found on another thread about Girard-Perregaux numbers I believe this movement to be: 33 09

Giarard-Perregaux

Sea Hawk

17 Jewel

3309453

A huge thank you for any information from such a great community

Hi Samuel,

There should be no problem to use the part as is, no mater it is broken to 2 pieces.

Oh really? How interesting, given that it’s a clean break and it’s screwed down on both sides?

Thanks fantastic!! That you ever so much my friend, I’m excited about the project again now as it’s driving me crazy trying to find one!

Thanks again 🙏🏻

A replacement part is required. Try eBay for a donor movement b

With that I think it’s best I do try eh! I’ve sent a few emails/messages out and I think I’ve identified it as an A Schild 1688 and perhaps it’s a “minute train bridge”

Thabj you mate

It will be much easier (and cheaper) to find an AS 1688 movement for parts

normal that would be true but there appears to be a problem here. When I went looking for the cross reference parts list of the 1688 it referred me to another caliber which seemed suspicious? A little more research indicated what the problem is. Let me quote something for the first link. notice for both the 6887 and the 1688 that it's the base caliber and the part about unknown whether the base caliber actually exist at all?

notice what happens when you go looking for the parts yes the first link has a few of them but basically refers you to another watch in the second one only refers you to have a watch which is the last link.

Wow this is fascinating and I’m loving it! I can’t believe the lengths you went to for my questions, I really appreciate you mate!

So perhaps the good news is I actually have a few potential donor movements or watch’s to look into instead of focusing on the single one (1688)

Ive actually tried using epoxy to re-connect the the two pieces which is currently setting and waiting to be filed smooth whilst I try and find parts for a ghost movement 😆

Huge thanks John 🫡

Some parts listing cross reference to a Zodiac 68 (and others); from photos that part is apparently the "minute train bridge".

Cousins have them in stock!

Cross referencing again, this is a Zodiac 70 462 on ebay (at twice the price) & the photo appears to match your part:

BOUGHT! SOLD! PURCHASED! Un-real, with everyone’s help and information not only did I get a chance to see how powerful a forum could be but I’ve learnt ALOT about movements share/swap uses/information which has resulted in finding and buying the part!

Thank you very much mate

    • This is a modern watch, the crown is definitely made from solid 316l steel. You must have heated the crown to some 200C caused the surface colour to change to light yellow. It's similiar to steel tempering. Yes it is the chromium oxide that forms during the heating that gives rise to the colours you see as you know stainless steel contains chromium. The fact the crown is SS lead me to a question, you've never heard of the alum method? Because alum would work perfectly in this case, instead of drilling, which, there is always a risk of damaging the crown, I would just let the crown chilling in some warm alum solution for 1-2 days and the job is done.   Sure can but the thing is the crown is not just mirror finishing, the lock symbol is polish while its background is some sand-blasted finishing so it would be hard to replicate that. You can buff it all shiny but losing the sand-blasted finishing means it won't look exactly like before.   Gasket is always tricky to me. I would try to use some gasket that look closest to the broken one in term of thickness and diameter, and check if the replacement gasket fit with some friction to the case tube. Lastly you can still use alum at this point.
    • No mate. Sorry if that offends you! Also please don’t take threads off-topic. I thank you sir.
    • Hello and welcome from Leeds, England.
    • Thanks Mark I have uBlock Origin Lite add-on for my Windows Chrome browser, so I've never seen a single ad on this site ! It also removes all adds from Youtube - I couldn't bear to watch it without uBlock
    • Thanks Mark, but can we still discuss the other important matter please and not be distracted from it. Thank you.
