Hello all of you,

I got a pocket watch equipped with a Parrenin HP 40, which seems to be commonly used in watchmaking schools, at least in France. I would like to remove the movement from the case, but i can't remove the winding stem. It works well when it comes to winding the movement or setting the hour, but it is impossible to remove it, even when I unscrew completely the small screw.

Any idea?

Here is a picure of the movement.

I've tried to press the set lever screw after loosening it, but no result. The thing is, I can tighten that screw exactly to the same point whatever the position of the stem, which souldn't be possible. There must be something wrong, but I can't see where the problem is as I'm unable to remove the stem 🤔

Sorry for the question, but did You untighten the correct screw? It is the smaller one, to the north-east from the crown wheel. If tightened, moving the stem in setting/winding position will make hte screw head turn a little. If still no result in stem removal, then try to lift alittle the dial where setting lever is located as to alow the lever to lift above the stem together with trying to pull the stem

Probably not the root cause of your problem but I'd also remove the movement retaining ring. The stem must pass through a cut away in it and if the ring is slightly out of alignment it can snag the stem preventing its extraction.

I did remove the movement retaining ring and I untightened the correct screw. No success.

Finally, I removed completely the set lever screw, put one tip of my tweezers into the hole and pressed it quite hard ... and the stem came!

It appeared that the part of the setting lever which comes into the stem was too long ... I filed it a little and it's ok. Incredible!!!

Thanks all of you
