This is a really cool forum with a lot of very interesting, like minded people from all over the world, and yet it's microscopic. Sounds like @Nucejoe (Iran) spent some time very near where I used to live here in Colorado decades ago. @JohnC's (Canada) brother worked/s in the same lab as my best friend up in Boulder. @AndyHull (Scotland) shares my enthusiasm for cheap thrills and technology. @SparkyLB (Florida) shares my enthusiasm for woodworking, and we've exchanged many texts on the subject. @LittleWatchShop (Texas) gave me some good advice on patent matters for the tech I'm trying to turn into a business. And finally, a huge, massive thanks to @gpraceman (Colorado). He lives down the hill from me about 20 minutes away. We met for burgers and beers a while back since it's somewhat rare to find people on here that are actually close by. I started a car club (theme is social wrenching), and he came out with his awesome BMW Z4M to help me and a group of car enthusiasts modify my Jeep. Lately, he's been coming up to my house pretty much daily to help me with some major home repairs in preparation for the baby we're having in the next week (hopefully Sunday, and no sooner!). I've made real life friends on the internet before, but while the variety of people here is probably the most broad in many aspects, the quality is simply outstanding. Kudos to @Mark and the moderators for setting up this thriving community! Thank you all!

Hi Spectre,

Enjoyed reading your post, to me nice reminder of times I worked  there. Your location is not a common place in nuclear scientist circles.

HTGR ( high temperature gas " cooled"  reactor) a much advanced nuclear power reactor,  at the very least offered cost reduction for the industry and public safety.

HTGR   at fort saint vrain colorado was one of two in the US, though a power reactor, it was to prove its high efficiency/ reliability/ observability/ controlabilty and many more abilities, to the industry.

No technology is perfect, specially at its introduction stages. HTGR was overly advanced for the time, few dare to invest in advancement of new technology.

I often watch its images on internet, what is it they say ; memories are islands of happiness or something along that line.

Congratulations for the new addition to your family.

Nice post and thank you for it.

Rgds

Joe

It is indeed a macro/micro world. I have fantasized about doing a us road trip to meet forum members. I took a side road while driving to Minnesota and met @dadistic. And I met another central Texas member who visits me periodically for a watch day.

I don't have babies any more...just grandbabies. A huge blessing. Congrats on your newcomer.

Thanks for the congrats, everyone! Anyone coming through the Denver area, feel free to hit me up. I'm en route to all the ski resorts from DIA! I bet dollars to donuts gpraceman would join us to boot.
