Carbide is a good choice, but remember that you need something much harder than steel to sharpen and polish. So you WILL need a diamond wheel and diamond compound to grind and polish. Everyone has preference and I guess I'm a bit old school, in that I like M2 and O1 steel to make gravers out of, mostly O1. AOA is the most critical when turning blued steel. Just practice. you can turn it with M2 steel -
I know I've got more movements and parts somewhere but most of my mechanical stuff is still in storage from many years ago and my eyesight isn't up to most of it anymore.

I'd been looking at that one and this one, just seen it's now showing as out of stock as well. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185785988717?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=vcBoyCuvRcC&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=ixrYkJ6RThm&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Maybe I should just get the one from Italy before that ones out as well

Can I ask where would you get one overseas as I've only been able to find one on eBay from Italy? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166758352244?itmmeta=01J1WD7ZS5A604N7YJ1YYS3W7B&hash=item26d3928574:g:XHwAAOSw0gBmQNSD&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwFsDXr%2BV4UEdt9AZODORQ3%2B3gTJ4D6SKnULTENDihd6ZK8pyKxKUNJOapEtnN3R758yGBo7BAMRrGXlunpUP9ECi3JaHopE6mQ9NJ%2BH5Yss3icTKNeXURdx19yCznG2RS5x9NMJi6suAmG6WqvKuGmNAlre9Eyr%2BayoATktg9FxbfNgoflUp3NXiZasjOyHfMaz1Bzh2exolyGffWk81GdJ9%2BbQ%2BZSbGYVzekUI4zkeOAKMAd0p65xRRD7y4pPCg0Q%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR878n42PZA

What's the 'line release tool'? Edit Just did a search for line release tool and found one but it doesn't explain how it works. All I know if that when I've tested watches this way and got no hand movement and then replaced the coil they've worked. Never really sat back and thought about it to be honest but yes you're right, it is the rotor that causes movement so as @HectorLooi said it would still work with the coil removed. Think I'll have to do some more testing this weekend. Just sat here now questioning my sanity why I ever believed it worked that way when I got told it!!!!
