Yes, that's it! Thank you very much. This is a very strange movement 

Since then I have cleaned it and reassembled, but with a strange result: the second hand doesn't move. I will search on the Internet the cause of this failure.

How does the seconds drive and pinion look and did you not do any test before fitting the balance?

Edit just realised that there appears to be 2 versions of the 217?

Does yours have the centre seconds?

Did you press that large wheel above the train bridge back on firmly enough?

If that is loose, the seconds hand will not be driven properly.

Reading through, the first photo was from before cleaning and re-assembly, so presumably taken part way through the disassembly??

Looking at it in comparison with this eBay listing everything including the seconds drive wheel appears to be their.

Here are the parts specifically dedicated to making the second hand work. The shaft goes through the movement into the second hand, and it is motionned by the wheel on the back of the movement. That is very unusual!

At the moment the watch works perfectly without all of that (i.e. only with the hour and minute hands), so it seems there is something wrong with those parts.

So was this not fitted in the photo I highlighted above?

I expect what's wrong is that the 2 parts you've got for the second hand should be 1 part.

Not at all, the first version of a sweep second.

Maybe the pinion wants an upper pivot?

It is (or was) a very common system.

You just have to make sure the driver wheel is pressed firmly on the pivot extension that protrudes through the train bridge.

In you photo of the assembled movement, it looks like that wheel may be upside down, so the the wheel itself is not in line with the small centre pinion?

Thank you for your remarks. I have tried the other way, but it's still working irregularly. It's far better without the second hand ... but too fast! I feel that this watch is too complicated for a beginner like me.

So is there a pinion in their that we just can't see on the photo?

I presume what you're showing as 2 parts was like this when you stripped it?

Here is a picture of the caliber as it is now, as well as a picture of the watch itself. At the moment it is working, but it stops from time to time. Another point is that it moves too fast, although the regulator is on "slow" position. I guess something is wrong with the hairspring (it looks irregularly curved).

Still a lot of work to do, but this is the best way to learn. I need to be more patient
