D. Rod Lloyd Anniversary Clock book

Hi everyone,
Does anyone have an opinion on the above book? I can get that on Kindle for $12 vs a tenth edition Horolovar book for $100. 
I also can’t get the best setting tool here in Australia so I am going to make a tool. Already have the plan in my head. Very simple out of aluminium flat bar.

This is what someone said on Amazon about the book.

Over 200 page book with only 58 pages on anniversary clocks and not much real useful repair information in those 58 pages. This is the same pattern used by the author in his Atmos repair book, a long book with very little information related to the title subject. Mostly just fluff and a waste of money.

I have just looked on ebay again and postage is a bugger to Australia. Do you have libraries that lend out books.

Wow. I have his clock repairers bench manual and it seems pretty good. (Christmas present)

Not sure if the library in Geelong carries the Horolovar book. I might just stump up $100 and buy the one that I found in South Australia. I have checked his other ads and he also is asking $350 for about 50~60 different suspension springs, other bits and pieces and a beat setting tool.

I might offer $400 for the book ($100) and the springs etc ($350) and see how I go. Still have to find out what it will cost to get it shipped to me as well. Be better than the US or the UK.

Hi Michael things are expensive in Australia, I got the tenth edition from Cousins. For £25 a few years ago  and just picked up. Schatz 400 day for £10 plus a fiver postage, it has no blocks and the suspension is missing  but no bother I have some. They certainly know how to charge in Australia.  I have attached a little reading for you on anniversary clocks.

Michael, offer him $350 for the lot, might get lucky I know I have a couple of times. The worst he can say is bugger off.

$450 down to $400, I'm sure he can do better than that, like Tom said he can only say no to a cheek offer.  Me old mum used to say " if you dont ask son, you wont get "

For $400 you could get a shed full of torsion springs sent from Horolovar to Australia including a book I would have thought, worth sending them an email

I'm still talking to the guy in South Australia. Seems like a nice bloke. He also has a book on anniversary clocks by an author named Joseph Rabushka. He has already mentioned doing a deal with me on the two books and the springs, tools etc.

$100 + $80 + $350 = $530 (his asking prices)

I am thinking of offering $430. I hate bartering.

I just went to the Horolovar website and the tenth edition Terwilliger book would cost me $118 dollars (that includes freight) to get it to Australia.

I just added another book and a beat setting tool. Add freight and I am up to $390AUD. That is without any suspension springs etc. Makes the Aussie deal a bit more likely.

Just added about the amount of suspension springs that the guy in SA has. Price plus freight is about $470AUD. If I get a deal of about $450AUD, I'd still be way in front. I think the guy in SA also has top and bottom blocks in with the suspension springs as well as some other bits.

I'll just have to get it past the wife with some man logic.

This is probably the book by J Rabushka it is an excellent book as far as how to service a torsion clock , better than the 10th edition Horolovar book in that instance but you could really do with both because the Repair & Restore book doesn’t include all the plates or measurements for the torsion springs but if it’s the second picture then don’t buy it as it doesn’t help.

I don't do it all the time. I remember just after I got married a member of my wife's family said pay in cash that offer will normally bring the price down.

The guy is in South Australia. I'm in Victoria, so paying him cash is not possible. It'll have to be a bank transfer into his account.

I'm going to try $430 and offer to pay the freight, but I don't give that much chance of getting over the line to be honest.

Be careful if doing a bank transfer make sure it’s not a scam, credit card would be better.

He offered $475 to me and he pays the postage. I countered with $450.

Wait & see.

I don't have a credit card. Only a debit card. I can always use PayPal. He looks legit. Has quite a few other ads for books and clock tools. Let down key set, bench keys. Oilers, movement holder. Heaps of other tools.

Let down keys would be nice, but easy to make out of a piece of round wood with a slot and hole in one end to go over the clock key and bingo.

I use PayPal but not friends & family and yes have to pay a couple of pounds to cover fee but worth it to be able to get money back of worst happens.

Am I able to use PayPal to pay directly into someone's bank account?

The guy I am buying the things from says he doesn't use PayPal and has sent me his bank details. His Gumtree rating is excellent though so I don't think there will be any issue with me just transferring money to him.

What decade are you aiming for? Just to remind you I will soon be 70 so don't leave it to long.
