Yes, it's true. Some do not line up very well. Like the one I got from AliExpress 5 years ago. The upper and lower screws do not line up by more than 1.0 mm. I broke several mineral glass crystals before I discovered the problem.

But that does not mean that it's totally useless. I loosened the upper plate and filed the holes to correct for the misalignment and managed to get the screws to line up properly. And it has been working perfectly since.
